WWE: Raw (31st August 09)

raw_31st_august_09

At last they are using someone to be the GM for Raw that is relevant. I know that Dusty Rhodes is from another generation, but the fact that he can be used in the story lines with Cody makes me intrigued. However, I sad the same about The Million Dollar Man and I was wrong. The following is from the WWE website in regards to tonights Raw:

  • Tune in to Raw tonight to witness The American Dream, Dusty Rhodes, reign as special guest host. There's no telling how funky the WWE Hall of Famer will get or what he has in store for his son, Legacy henchman Cody!
  • United States Champion Kofi Kingston has faced similar odds before, but can The Jamaican Craze endure a Fatal Four Way Match against Carlito, Jack Swagger and The Miz - who's vowed to take the U.S. Title - live tonight on Raw?
  • On Raw, the four opponents from WWE Breaking Point's Unified Tag Team Title Match collide in a pair of singles bouts. The World's Strongest Man and The World's Largest Athlete meet in a massive melee while Chris Jericho faces MVP.

wwe_raw_31st_aug_09The Jericho vs MVP match should be worth a watch, as will the fatal four way. I hope that Raw can learn from the lesson that Smackdown has been giving out all year. You have a two hour show every week. Use some of those two hours to showcase your younger and smaller tallents. See how the audience reacts to them. You don't have to put them in the Wrestlemania main event, but you need something Vince because lately the PWBites aren't happy with the Cena / Triple H / Orton stuff. You have to mix it up a little.

Feel free to discuss Raw, Dusty Rhodes, or who you would like to see given a chance from the Raw roster here!

    Wow….nobody’s posted

  2. D-Ray

I think it’s a bad sign if COLE sounds bored during a match (divas match).. glad Beth won though.. Gail looked terrible

  3. D-Ray

Why is this Chavo/hornswoggle thing STILL going? it’s not funny, nor is it entertaining.. did chavo piss someone off in the back or what? i’m getting tired of this “feud”.. i would rather have Santino come out if they are trying to be funny..

  4. The Original Nick

not feeling this raw so far

  5. The Original Nick

Doesnt seem like many people in the crowd understood that whole WCW/DX/Dusty segment

  6. 313rd Perfectionist

Well of course Nick! I mean the audience are either folks who don’t follow wrestling like you and I do or were still in diapers during the Monday Night Wars.

    D Ray–

I agree with you, and thats exactly how I felt about the MVP/Hardy feud.

And I like how Triple H got on Marc Mero. I guess they never got along.

  7. 313rd Perfectionist

As great as that Shockmaster skit was, only a few memebers of the audience got the punchline unfortunately.

  8. see Marc Mero vs Brian Pillman in a 35 min opener from 1995. Great match. It may have been at Clash of the Champions.

That DX promo with Dusty about WCW wasnt funny though, it was way too goofy.

  9. the crowd died. did you see everyone sitting in their chairs when they panned to the crowd after the Mickie win? Turn Mickie heel. She has NO CHARACTER. Put her ass on Smackdown or make her heel.

  10. The Original Nick

haha its like when Dusty joined the nwo

  11. I will just skip the Orton/Cena match. Im sure it will main event tho :(

  12. Joe Morgan

    Worst Raw Ever.

Impact is way more entertaining the knockouts put on a better match than the entire raw roster did tonight. WWE relly needs to re-energize the show and do SOMETHING.
Ah well at least its not the “undertaker cm why the fuck are we feuding Punk smackdown main event. serously wwe writing today makes NO since. Have they forgotten how to introduce and build a feud?

  13. D-Ray

Yes Joe, yes they have.. since they aren’t forced to compete with anyone who is a major threat at the moment, I guess they are using this time to shove stupid shit down our throats week after week just to see how long it takes before we eventually call our cable providers and tell them to cancel our accounts.. all I have left to say is “Thank God football is back!”

  14. Dynamite Kid

I dunno, ROH at 7 was pretty damned good. If you guys don’t watch it, you should. You know, wrestling? Remember that?

  15. The Original Nick

    would if i had hdnet

  16. HoganMark

Well It looks like Ted Will Turn Face By Survivor Series, Legacy will be breaking up soon. I Have a bad feeling Cena is going to beat Orton at Breaking Point!

  17. How was that the worst RAW ever? The Diva matches sucked. The four way was ok. the end of RAW was done really well tho.

  18. macho

Does anybody else feel like every Monday they watch a fucking rerun of last weeks crap??

  19. The Original Nick

    macho-

to be fair, it does differ in some ways…for example, this week we saw Chavo in a bull suit, last week we didn’t

  20. Kane

    Anyone watched ECW?

OMG Tony Atlas fake-laughing was just painfull to watch. It wasn’t even in the least bit funny, just F’n annoying

  21. macho

I was pissed at ECW I was under the impression that they would play the HBK Taker match in its entirety.

  22. Joe Morgan

ECW was lame as well. I fast forwarded through the filler and it took me 21 minutes to watch. That so called WWE wrestlemainia replay was total emo garbage. How much more can you slob Michael’s and Taker. Seriously they need to both retire.

I can see Shawn as a Jimmy Hart style manager for some young talent.

  23. HoganMark

Man all of you guys must really hate WWE? Why watch it then?

  24. EXACTLY.

Joe, HBK and Undertaker need to retire? Why because they are old? If they can(and are) still putting up classic matches, drawing money, and elevating other talent then why they hell should they retire? I think you should retire from the blog. Hell, I think you should retire from watching wrestling wrestling and stop infecting the blog with complete negativity.

Dont bother commenting. ECW is a show similar to Sunday Night Heat or WCW Saturday night. Look at the roster. What the hell do you expect?

  25. If you can barely get through RAW then why the hell are watching ECW?

  26. HoganMark

All People do is “shit” on the wwe proudct, Stop watching it then. Raw is not like it use to be, But I like watching ECW and Smackdown!

jsnwwf what happened to your youtube page? and do you have a x-box live account?

  27. David

Wow some of these comments are baffling, you have 313 comparing a dreadful “comedy” feud between Hornswoggle and Chavo because they have nothing better to do with either of them with the consensus feud of the year between Matt Hardy and MVP that elevated both guys and really should have led to both of them pushing for a main event spot.

Then Joe criticises the Punk-Taker feud before they’ve even had the chance to do anything an demands that HBK and Taker to retire, 5 months after they had the match of the year and arguably one of the greatest matches in Mania history before both had a well earned break to recover from such an excellent match.

The usual biased comments from the WWE haters/ROH and TNA lovers just tops it off. I honestly don’t understand why any of you even watch Raw or even WWE in general as you never have anything good to say about it. I’ve boycotted Raw because it’s awful yet you lot continually watch seemingly to just take a cheap shot and say how great iMpact and ROH on HDTV are. Chances are Raw did suck but if you dislike something so much, don’t watch. I hate Big Brother so I don’t watch it, I don’t decide to watch it everyday so I can blog online and criticise it because that would be a waste of time.

Even when something good happens you criticise it anyway, how anyone can bash the long-term booking of Hardy-MVP, a new feud between Punk-Taker and a match that even the wrestlers consider to be one of the greatest matches of all time is beyond me. No wonder wrestlers are so sick of internet wrestling fans because some of them don’t have anything good to say about them no matter what they do. Rant over.

  28. The Original Nick

I see the Taker/HBK retirement situation as being similar to the Brett Favre retirement situation…why leave the thing you love if you can still go?

And I thought ECW was good, you guys can’t let one Abraham Washington segment determine your view of the entire show.

  29. Kanadian

I hate raw too (and I don’t watch it) but criticising the Punk/Taker feud just seems like you’re looking for something to complain about.

Perfectionist, if you really didn’t like the MVP/Hardy feud I don’t know where you were to criticize it at the time, because it was overwhelmingly praised by the IWC and this blog in particular; it was the feud of the year for many. So I am under the impression you are looking at a feud you liked in hindsight and and saying it was bad.

  30. HoganMark

David Well Said, I couldn’t have said it better myself.

  31. Joe Morgan

If any of you can tell me how or why the Taker Punk feud makes any type of storyline since ill stop posting negitave things about it. I am a writer and I find the lazy lackluster way Raw and ECW s written sad. I watch it because I love wrestling as entertainment. WWE is quickly killing that pushing ppv sales over a good well written and enjoyable product

things have gotten so bad I now watch old WCW on you tube.

    PS JSN
If you were old enough to remember good wrestling you would feel the same way. (I am not talking attuode era either. We are serously being cheated)

  32. Hogan mark

my xbox live account name is P3JA for 3

    my youtube account is now
    http://www.youtube.com//HeJustGotOWNED

  33. David. Bravo my friend, bravo.

  34. I have been watching WCW 95-96 on youtube and dailymotion for a while now(including PPVs). I am currently on Bash at the Beach. How ironic?

    http://www.dailymotion.com/search/tsteck160+wcw+nitro+96/7

Joe, ille just ignore you from now on.

  35. Kanadian

That’s not ironic; not to be a jerk.

On Taker/Punk, I don’t know why/if Taker has something against Punk. Maybe Taker thinks Punk is too cocky and wants to humble him, maybe Taker wants to make an impact upon his return. Perhaps Taker doesn’t have anything against Punk and just wants the World Title. Maybe Undertaker has a character who is a little mysterious; maybe as a man who can control lightning and spontaneously materialize in the middle of the ring, he is a but unpredictable, and to a mere mortal his actions do not make sense. It’s conceivable that Undertaker may reveal his motivations, on the other hand we may never know.

  36. Kane

    @ Nick

I liked ECW too, don’t get me wrong. Ryder vs Benjamin and Sheamus vs Goldust in particular, but Tony Atlas was just teethgrinding bad (or atleast the character he portrayed). Abe Washington is ok, but Atlas didn’t really add to the segment imho.

  37. How is that being a jerk? ironic, coincidence, doesn’t matter. We both are looking at WCW tapes.

  38. my badd. i misread your comment

  39. macho

David, how about you don’t tell people what then can and can’t watch, and what they can and can’t say. I’ll watch whatever the fuck I want and write whatever the fuck I want because this is the internet and in the grand scheme of things it does not fucking matter. Also, NEVER lump ROH lovers in with TNA lovers. If people who shit on Raw didn’t post then fucking nobody would. Like 5 people total post anyway, so who the fuck cares? If we have a negative opinion, then we can post it. And just because the whole IWC thinks that MVP Hardy was fucking gold, doesn’t mean that people cannot think otherwise. It is well knows I think both workers are garbage. And I’m allowed to say it. JSN strongly disagrees with me, and he is allowed to say it to. Its about fucking debate, not about us all getting along and sucking each others dicks.

  40. Macho, how could you say that Matt Hardy and MVP are garbage?

    What the hell was that?

  41. Kanadian

    -macho

You sort of just buried yourself in your own argument. David respectfully presented his observations of the state of the blog and the IWC and his frustrations with it. He suggested a solution to said frustrations that he felt was logical for a dissatisfied viewer to take; and questioned the merits as to why one would feel the mvp/hardy and cm punk/taker feuds are/were not enjoyable. Instead of coming back with an explanation as to why David’s suggestions were flawed, you created a straw man of his point of view and attacked him. The bias and motivations of the IWC are reasonable grounds for debate, just as what action one should take in response to poor quality product is reasonable grounds for debate.

  42. macho

Jsn, bro, you know that I feel that way, and I know you don’t agree. We’ve had this argument before, and we will have it again, I’m sure lol.

Kanadian, you buried my attention span. BORING. I don’t know how you do things in Kanada, but here in AMERICA we don’t give a FUCK about RESPECT. hahahhahhaha. no but seriously, first amendment. I’ll write how I want.

  43. l laughed on two occasions when reading that macho post. lol

  44. Dynamite Kid

macho is 110% correct with everything he said. If you like RAW, that’s great, feel free to post that on here. But the people who think it sucks balls have just as much right to express that opinion too.

Some people love everything Vince puts out, while others like Macho and myself pretty much hate a lot of it. Personally I’ve stopped watching RAW completely. Smackdown is good, and I’m assuming it’s that way because Vince has little to do with it.

I seldom post anymore because I am sick and tired of being continually attacked on here. I don’t mind defending my opinions, but when some asshole started making cracks because I’m older than most of you, well that was pretty much it for me.

  45. The Original Nick

Yea man, Dynamite Kid pretty much disappeared from the blog

  46. David

My point was why do the same people complain about how poor Raw was even bother watching it when they have nothing good to say about it. I don’t understand why anyone would watch a show that they don’t enjoy it just doesn’t make any sense to me and at times it seems like people just bash the WWE for the sake of it e.g. comparing popular feuds with “comedy” angles or complaining about a feud that hasn’t even started yet and to be honest I’m getting sick of it. If you like to be miserable and angry then go ahead and watch a show that makes you so mad that you have to bitch about everything that happens online but personally I’d rather spend my time watching something that I actually enjoy.

  47. 313rd Perfectionist

****THIS MAY FALL ON DEAF EARS, BUT IM PUTTING IT OUT THERE ANYWAY, IN HOPES SOMEONE CAN GET MY TAKE ON THINGS AND CLARIFY A FEW MISCONCEPTIONS.****

    David–
Slow down there guy, slow down. Let me make this clear, I dont watch Raw/Smackdown religiously. I just catch small tidbits here and there from time to time. To the rest of you, the MVP/Hardy feud may not have seem long battle; maybe thats bc you sat and watched it and blogged about it and followed it all the way through. Me on the other hand, who really didnt follow the feud, (thus, not understanding why they had 1on1 basketball and became a tag team) thought the feud was long and boring. HOWEVER THAT DOES NOT MEAN I’M HATING ON MVP/HARDY AND WHERE THEY’RE AT IN THEIR CAREERS.

As for me being a TNA lover…ehh not really no. My viewing habits with TNA are pretty much the same with WWE. As a matter of fact, I just posted in the current TNA Impact discussion that I’ll be watching this for the first time in a long time, top to bottom. Card looks good.

Me being an ROH lover…guilty as charged!! ROH filled the gap WWE couldnt. But allow me to say that I realize that everything ROH touches and does is not gold. There are a few matches/storylines/promos that ROH made me yawn at. Hell the last show I went to in January was absolutely awful. I felt short changed. However, I’m a ROH true blue lover alright!

Now as for criticizing WWE’s shows. I remember once upon a time, where Lex would create the discussion for some WWE PPV that usually main evented John Cena. And I remember seeing blocks and blocks of text of pwb bytes posting their hatred of Super Cena and how bad overall the show was, and guys saying things along the lines of:

“Oh my God, I cant believe I wasted $ X.xx just to see this shit. I’m never buying another ppv EVER!!!”

    or

“Super Cena has done it again….UGH!!”

Not exactly what some users on the PWB have said, but again, that’s what I’ve observed.

Now, maybe I’m wrong for saying WWE as a whole sucks. Because from what most of you say, Smackdown is really the better show. Maybe it is, haven’t sat down and watched it a long time. From what I saw of RAW, I liked. The Mickie James/Phoenix match. And pretty much anything Kofi Kingston, the man is talented. TNA, but I’m willing to give it a chance by watching this weeks episode.

I give credit where credit’s due, but like few of you have said already, I’m entitled to my opinion.

  48. D-Ray

313… I just wanted to say thank you… for months now, people have plagued internet and texts and the english language in general by replacing “their” and “they’re” with “there”… FINALLY someone can do it right lol.. so I just wanted to say thank you for being one of the few who can use these words correctly.

  49. 313rd Perfectionist

Thank you D-Ray. I don’t think I’m an expert of the English writing, but when push comes to shove, I can go the distance.
