WWE: Judgment Day 2009
I'm excited about a few matches on tonight's Judgment Day Card. The Christian vs Swagger match was for me, the best match on the card at Backlash. Their false finishes were great and Christian let Swagger really throw him about. Hopefully the rematch tonight will be just as good and I see Christian winning. Another match which has the potential to steal the show is the Morrison vs Benjamin match. Their styles really blend together and could pull out a beauty.
WWE Champion Randy Orton vs. Batista- World Heavyweight Champion Edge vs. Jeff Hardy
- John Cena vs. Big Show
- ECW Champion Christian vs. Jack Swagger
- Intercontinental Champion Rey Mysterio vs. Chris Jericho
- John Morrison vs. Shelton Benjamin
- CM Punk vs. Umaga
It looks on paper to be a pretty good under card, or at least the potential to be one. I think it will be interesting to see how things turn out aswell because they need to pump a few more storylines into the product right now.
Feel free to discuss Judgment Day here. If you want to post your predictions before the show starts I'll add them up afterwards and we'll find out who the king of PWB predictions is. My picks are: Orton, Edge, Cena, Christan, Mysterio, Morrison and Punk.

I’m actually really excited for the Christian/Swagger match as well as the Orton/ Batista match… I know I haven’t been on in a while, but I’m back!
$David “Shortz and A T” Heffernan$
I think the most intriguing match on the card is Punk vs Umaga, but I don’t count on it stealing the show.
Other matches I’m looking forward to are Jericho/Mysterio, Morrison/Benjamin, Christian/Swagger, and Edge/Hardy.
Anybody think MVP/Regal will be added last minute?
nick that will probally be for the june ppv extreme rules and have some sorta of gimmick match for it
it sounds pretty crap so far. Anyone watching it?
I just got in brother so I haven’t seen any of it yet. The Orton / Batista match is about to start
Punk/Umaga was alright, sucks they jobbed Punk 2 PPVs in a row, maybe he’ll cash in later tonight.
Morrison/Benjamin was good, but had almost no heat; Christian/Swagger was not very good; Jericho/Mysterio has been the match of the night so far.
Batista/Orton is on now
I’m watching it on a stream here if anyone wants it:

I’m gonna delete this comment after the show tho so dont comment on the actual streem itself
Cole on Ortons offense: “methodical”
So far this has been the typical Randy Orton match…and as I type that he goes for a DDT off the second rope
I hate Coles commentary. He annoys the hell out of me
HA HA.
How heelish is Orton, trying to hold on the the ring post on the outside looking for a count out!
Orton gets himself disqualified by slapping the ref
Ric Flair is here
He helps Batista fight off Legacy and I smell an Evolution vs Legacy match brewing
PPV sounds pretty good so far, the Rey-Y2J match sounded excellent from the WZ commentary. This could be one of the better wrestling PPVs of the year. The only silly thing sounds like the Miz-Santino-Chavo-baseball player nobody outside of the States has heard of angle and usually Santino makes everything funny.
Not suprising the Orton-Batista match had a DQ finish, that seems to be how all Batista title challenges end. I really don’t want to see a Legacy-Evolution feud though, simply because I never want to see Flair wrestle again. And I don’t know why Legacy keep getting beat up by non-wrestlers, it’s ruining what potentially could be a great stable.
Yeah theres no way that Naitch could have stayed retired for long.
I think that Nick is right there
really David? It sounds terrible to me. One good match so far. Why can’t Orton go over Batista clean for once?
Jerry Lawler: “75% of John Cena is better than 100% of most wrestlers”
LOL, ok King!
Because they don’t want a 40 year old meat head who is near the end of a career losing credibility…to a guy in his prime
Did anyone else see Flair embarrass himself on ROH last night? He was naming the #1 contenders for the strap and he needed a scrap of paper with the wrestlers names on. He really needs to stay totally away for 12 moths.
Has there been no Jim Ross at all tonight?
JR announced the Punk/Umaga match and Jericho/Mysterio.
This Cena/Show match is AWFUL…its a whole lot like the “beat down” Show put on Cena a few weeks ago, s—-l—-o—-w
Yeah, the crowd are booing both guys for this one
cena wins? Are you fucking kidding me? WHat was all the “injury” build up for then? Jesus the WWE writing staff is stupid.
DK, other than Cena-Show the PPV doesn’t sound that bad. As I said, Rey-Y2J was supposed to be excellent and Punk-Umaga, Christian-Swagger and Morrison-Benjamin all sounded like good matches as well. It would be nice to see Orton beat Batista but with the DQ finish the rivalry can last to at least the next PPV. Hopefully Flair’s involvement will be minimal, the guy should have packed in wrestling for good after his final Raw send-off, everytime he comes back is like a big FU to the fans, wrestlers and management that helped make his retirement so memorable.
I guess we’re reading different things. It sounds horrible to me. 4/10 tops.
Having actually watched the PPV, Punk v Umaga was a decent match. Nothing great, but not bad.
Christian v Swagger was good, real good even. But even though the match was different from before, it’s not exactly like these guys are breaking any new ground in their matches. If you’ve seen their first two matches, this might seem similar even if all the spots and the story telling is a little different.
Benjamin v Morrison was a good match with some great spots. It would have been better but there were some moments like it just seemed they were just kind of doing stuff till they figured out the next bit of story. I definitely enjoyed the match however, and upon seeing it again it might come out looking better.
Rey v Jericho, I personally think, was the match of the night. Some good, old fashioned, lucha libre psychology and storytelling superbly done by two guys that work very well together.
Batista v Orton wasn’t quite as bad as I thought it was going to be. Early on it seemed exactly like I imagined it would be, but then as Orton began running away, the match actually became more interesting. Still, if you are a fan of workrate, or actual wrestling, definitely not the match for you.
I purposely missed almost the entire Cena v Big Show match. I came back in just in time to watch Cena win an “upset.” Talk about disgusting. But I was really happy with the first 4 matches, and felt like I had gotten my money’s worth before Orton even came out so it didn’t really bother me.
Edge v Hardy was real good, second best match of the night in my opinion. Interestingly enough, I don’t have as much commentary for this one. Just that once Jeff Hardy started removing the pads on the security barrier, the match no longer seemed to have weaknesses from then on. I kept expecting CM Punk to cash in after the match, but it never happened.
Say what you want about how you think the PPV sounds, but unless you actually watched it, I honestly don’t think your opinion is really worth anything. So your opinion is based off of what other people say? Bravo, you can parrot someone else’s opinion. That’s difficult to do. You aren’t even using someone else opinion but basing your entirely on ignorance? At that point, you might as well go into politics.
I watched (most of) the PPV and I really enjoyed it. Other people are completely free to have their opinions, but reading people basing their opinions on nothing really irks me sometimes. It irks me when I watch the news or a press conference, when I read a press release, when I hear people spouting off about stuff they don’t even understand how it works. I hate it when people talk about how crappy a movie they haven’t seen is, or refuse to try something because they don’t like it, even though they have never tried it. Also, playing the part of the WWE shill and saying, “Boy, that sounds grand. Puke? What a great gimmick idea,” is equally annoying. Obviously me saying this isn’t going to cause you to be quiet, nor should it. Just throwing my two cents in.
I actually liked how they played out the Batista-Orton match. Orton’s character has consistently been developed and portrayed as a weasel when it comes to being in the ring. Like the Brian Kendrick, when it comes to taking the punishment for his words, he tries to back away, find an excuse not to. This match had some entertaining moments, and had Batista on his feet trying to catch everything Orton was doing to get himself disqualified. That said, how hard is it to just low blow Batista or use the title belt on him?
Cena-Show had its ups and downs. The whole STFU angle with Cena not being able to lock it in was reminiscent of Mysterio and his 6 or so tries of the 619, but I felt it still worked here. The “Attitude Adjustment” looked a lot better than the one given to Show at Wrestlemania, so I think the WWE has some new promo footage for the future.
Something no one else has mentioned so far was the Miz’ segment. Loved it. And with Santino coming out it looks like there might be a hilarious feud between these two for a short while to clean up the Show-Cena thing. Or maybe Cena’ll take Miz tomorrow. Either way, the Miz has come a long way from being the host of Smackdown.
Josh, I can’t watch the WWE PPVs until I’ve finished my exams and I’m back home from uni, so I always check out the blogs and WZ to see what people thought of the shows and whether they sound worth buying on DVD and this show has sounded pretty good. I obviously don’t know how good or bad it was but from what I have picked up it was a solid card. Dynamite is usually negative about WWE, he prefers TNA shows and he’s a fan of workrate over storytelling, so it’s no suprise that he didn’t like the sound of this show just like I’ve never been interested in TNA since Christian lost the belt. I understand your frustrations but people can still decide whether they want to see a product when they haven’t seen it, as I know that I wouldn’t like a recent TNA PPV because I’m not a fan of their current product so I don’t need to watch it.
Adduc, I think Miz has had a raw deal from the IWC for a while. He clearly improved a lot when he started teaming with Morrison but most smarks still bashed him anyway. Whilst I prefer Morrison, I think Miz worked just as hard to make that tag team a success and I’m happy for both guys to get a push. Personally I think that WWE broke them up too early but I like the fact that they are both getting opportunities to have a decent singles run.
I agree COMPLETELY with Josh.
COMPLETELY. The Miz/Santino segment was great.
I gave the show a 7/9 out of 10.
Sorry David. When someone says, “sounds good,” or “looks awful” it usually doesn’t bother me that much. Saying “4/10 tops” is what really got me going. How can you really give a rating to something you haven’t seen? To me, it’s the difference between saying, “Raw appears to have sucked this week,” and saying, “Raw really sucked this week, who the hell would watch this sh*t!?!” Granted, I have stopped watching Raw, and based on the overviews, haven’t looked back. I would still never give a rating to said Raw that I gladly missed however.
None of your comments bothered me, it was the growing certainty of DynamiteKid’s comments really. How could he be so certain without watching the three matches in a row that made the PPV worth is for me? Christian v Swagger, Morrison v Benjamin, and Mysterio v Jericho I’m certain even he would have enjoyed to a degree.
Now, every time I’ve tried watching TNA lately, I’ve wound up turning off the TV in disgust. However, if there was PPV that I wasn’t watching, but the card contained MCMG v Lethal Consequences, AJ Styles v Samoa Joe (Part 533), and Angle v Daniels, I would not rush to judgment of the show even if the rest of it was filled with Steiner, Booker T, and Mick Foley. More importantly, I would not rate the show without seeing it.
I didn’t mention the Miz segment in my rundown because I’m from St. Louis, and when Miz started in on the Cubs, he officially became the favorite wrestler of St. Louis for the night (even more than Sydal or Orton.) Hence, I could not speak on that with any level of objectivity.
Wreestlezone describes the matches in detail, move by move. So even though I didn’t see it live I was able to get a good feel.
So I’ve seen it now. 5/10 tops. It just shows how far PPVs have fallen that some of you would say this was a great PPV. It was equivalent to a good episode of RAW, but when people are paying $40 for this shit? Not good enough.
And TNA shits all over the WWE recently (apart from ECW). It’s wildly unpredictable but that’s what makes it interesting and what makes the E so damned dull. They have so much talent but have no idea what to do with any of it. Evolution vs legacy? AGAIN? Are you fucking kidding me?
Foley as TNA Champ? Steiner, Booker T, and Kevin Nash still wrestling? Hell, they make the Great Khali look good now days. However, if you like geriatric has-beens, a destroyed X division, and the burial of their good talent then I guess Impact is the show for you. Yes, Raw sucks. Try watching Smackdown. It’s been kicking butt lately. Smackdown and ECW are what I watch. Superstars normally has one decent match, usually from Smackdown. If you can’t get Smackdown, well it’s the WWE show to watch now. Hell, it’s the wrestling show to watch now. Better than ECW, better than ROH, and world’s better than Impact and Raw.
DK, you are laughable. In=m not even going to go an a rant here.
This guy said 5/10 tops. What did you give Backlash and No Way Out? 6s?
Give me a break “Mr negativity”

To anyone who thought this PPV was under par, you are living in a dream world. The first 4 matches were probably the best 4 back to match matches I have seen on a PPV in over 5 years. They were simply amazing. Yes Orton’s match and Cena’s matches were pretty awful, but you have to come to expect that.
