Wrestlers With The Most WWE Pay Per View Appearances

wrestlemania_3_crowdBelow is a list of wrestlers and the amount of matches that they had on WWE / WWF pay per views.

I found the most interesting aspect was the wrestlers that didn't make it to the top ten. No Bret Hart, no Steve Austin, no Hulk Hogan, no Rock!

I think this list truly shows the longevity of a wrestler, weather they are on the top of the card, or opening the show, these guys are the wrestlers that have been on our pay per view screens the most.

10 - The Big Show (PPV matches: 77)

In 1999, Paul Wight was signed to a very rare 10 year contract. I guess this has a lot to do with his top ten entry. Apart from a few brief sabbaticals due to injury, The Big Show has been around constantly since 1999. Vince just loves the big boys.

9 - Matt Hardy (PPV matches: 79)

Being in a tag team will help your total pay per view matches, and The Hardys were both billed on pay per views regularly during their feuds with Edge & Christian and The Dudleys. As Jeff has always wanted to do his own thing in his career, Matt has always been a solid WWE employee, and is the only guy in the top ten list that has never won the World Title.

8 - Kurt Angle (PPV Matches: 80)

Kurt Angle defeated Shawn Stasiak at the Survivor Series 1999 for his first PPV match for Vince, and put in a huge amount of PPV matches until he departed in 2006. Angle was a work horse throughout his WWE career and that was probably his downfall in the end as far as Vince was concerned.

7 - J.B.L (PPV Matches: 83)

Another guy who needs to thank being part of a tag team for a long time for his appearance in the list, although his run as a singles star after the APA had a lot to do with it too.

6 - Chris Jericho (PPV Matches: 90)

Like The Big Show, Jericho was already an established star before he arrived on the WWE circuit, but at present time he has already clocked up a very respectable 90 PPV matches for the WWE. He seems to be a guy that what ever stage in his career he is in, you just can't leave him out of the show.

5 - Shawn Michaels (PPV Matches 105)

After already being fired once for an incident in a bar (which he denies) Shawn Michaels was given "one last chance" by Vince. With Marty Jannetty, The Rockers they made their PPV debut in November 1988 in a ten on ten elimination match. Michaels debuted before anyone else on the list and is still going today, often stealing the show.

4 - Edge (PPV Matches: 108)

Edge is another guy that inflated his matches with years of tag team competition, but has gone on to be a multiple world champion. It still seems that Edge hasn't reached his peak yet and is still getting better and better as the years go on. He is probably the best example that you can't just throw someone in the main event because they sell merchandise, you have to slowly build a wrestler up year by year.

3 - Kane (PPV Matches: 117)

Although he has had a few PPV matches as other characters before finally running as Kane, the majority of his matches has been as his current incarnation. As someone who is far from a Kane fan, I can't believe that he has slipped under the radar and got a PPV pay cheque 117 times!

2 - Triple H (PPV Matches: 137)

I am sure that Triple H will go down in history as being the wrestler with the most PPV matches for the WWE. Even though he isn't running a full schedule right now he is here to stay. Trips has his eye on a lot of records and I'm sure that this one will be one of them, behind Ric Flairs 16 time World Champion honor. Love him or hate him, he really doesn't care, because when it's all said and done, he got the bosses daughter to say "I do".

1 - The Undertaker (PPV Matches: 144)

What else is there to say about The Undertaker that hasn't already been said. Like Triple H, he is a WWE "lifer". In one way or another he will be in the WWE for the rest of his working life. I find it amazing how long he has been able to keep the fans interested. He is known to take time off to let himself rest and to give the fans a rest of him and it works.

So there you have it, the top ten lists of wrestlers by the amount of WWF / WWE appearances. Like I said in the intro, I am amazed that certain wrestlers were not in the list, and although it isn't an argument for "the best wrestler ever", it has to go in The Undertakers favor.

  1. The Original Nick

This is a cool post, would not have expected Kane, JBL, or Big Show to be on the list.

The major reason guys like Hogan and Bret aren’t on the list is because they were gone (Hogan), or almost gone (Bret), from WWE by the time they started doing 12 PPVs a year.

  2. Wondering if factoring in WCW PPVs as well would boost the appearances of some like the Big Show, Jericho, and other individuals with stints in the company. Wouldn’t be fair to discount all of those.

  3. The Original Nick

Kurt Angle would probably move up a little too if TNA were counted

  4. The Gooser

Yeah your right… I think Jeff Jarrett would be up there too. If you think of all the WWE pay per views he was in plus just about every TNA PPV, he would probably be in the running

  5. Quick note. Only 3 of the following wrestlers wrestled at last nights’s PPV.

    HOW RARE IS THAT?!

  6. Aaron Hart

Good Article i must say. To be honest the first comment on this blog is spot on. Guys like Hart, Hogan etc only had a few ppvs a year. Wrestlemania started in 85 SummerSlam, Royal Rumble and Survivor Series about 3 years after and King Of The Ring started in 92 or 93 so these guys if they were always on the card still couldnt make it. Hart had a 12-14 year career in the WWE, he started 2 years before Wrestlemania so was only likely to amount to 50 or 60 by the time In Your House Started!
