The Ultimate Fighter 9 Finale

tuf9finaleAlthough this season of The Ultimate Fighter was good, it does seem to be getting stale. The UK vs USA was a good idea but for me it didn't really change much to the actual show. There were some good fighters displayed and brought to the audience, which I guess is the whole point, but I just wish they would do something to mix it all up a bit. The next season features the heavyweights though, and as much as you don't want to admit it, you know that there is at least one reason to watch it!

Another season of The Ultimate Fighter comes to a close when the lightweight and welterweight finalists clash to crown the next in the shows line of winners. The main card also showcases the lightweight division with a couple of fantastic fights to complement the finals, and the undercard has some decent action as well.

Feel free to discus The Ultimate Fighter finale here. I won't be able to watch it live because of the time difference (I'm representing team UK!) but I'll be watching it tomorrow.

Guida vs Sanchez was brutal…in a good way

  2. Joe Morgan

    Im still watching

  3. Joe Morgan

Guida Sanchez was an awesome fight and for the record Andre got robbed

  4. David

I loved watching Sanchez dominate Guida, I can’t stand that guy. That idiot judge who gave the fight to Guida shouldn’t be allowed back. Apparrently there were a few dodgy calls in the prelims as well. The Blackburn-Garcia fight in particular sounded dodgy.

It was also great to see Damarques get destroyed, as he was an arrogant loudmouth the whole show. Him and Cameron made me hate Team US regardless of the country theme. British MMA was very well represented and in Wilks and Pearson we have two very worthy TUF winners, plus Andre and Nick both have great futures as well. Whilst Andre-Ross wasn’t a great fight, it was very close and could have gone either way, so I have no complaints about that decision.

I’m gutted that Joe Daddy beat Nate, I’m a big fan of the Diaz Bros so that fight was hard to watch. Hopefully Nate will learn a lot from this defeat as he really needs to work on his takedown defence and use his height and reach to his advantage in the striking.

Good show even without any prelims and was just as fun to watch as 99, even if I was pretty drunk watching it (mate’s birthday so I had a few of them round after we went out clubbing). TUF 9 was a great show with an interesting concept as well as a focus on training instead of drunken antics and other than a couple of idiots (Damarques and Cameron) the fighters were all likeable guys and the British fighters in particular did a great job and suprised me (I was worried that we’d get hammered), my faith in British MMA has never been higher.

Guida is an arragant son of a bitch. Did you see the way he was bouncing around while the scores were read? It was an awesome match tho, I’m glad Sanchez kicked the shit out of him….

  6. The Gooser

The Guida vs Sanchez match was awsome!

  7. Arron

    KIng Benjamin, I must disagree.

In my opinion Guida won that fight. At least it was a draw. I will give Diego Sanchez a 10-8 round in the first. That is no debate in my opinion.

Guida won the 2nd, and he used superior standup to get the third round.

I don’t see how round 2 or 3 could have been awarded to Sanchez.

  8. The Gooser

I’m with you on that one Arron. I can’t see how Sanchez didn’t get the first as a 10-8 round. What else can someone do other than finish the fight to get a 10-8. I also agree that Guida won the next two rounds. So I make it either a draw or a Guida decision.

  9. The Gooser

    Hell of a fight though!

  10. David

Arron, Guida didn’t do any damage on top. Diego destroyed Guida from guard, he cut Clay badly from all of those elbows. Just because Clay had control in rounds 2 and 3 doesn’t mean that he won the fight, I’m more concerned with activity rather than position and based on that Diego definitely won round 2. Personally I find it pathetic that Clay was outstruck when he was on top but I hate the guy and won’t ever say a nice thing about him. After the pathetic decision over Diaz, Clay deserved to lose this fight. War Diego, looking forward to his title fight.

  11. Arron

You are right David, Guida got outstruck when he was on top.

I felt that Guida was able to control Sanchez better on the ground. Just my personal opinion. From taking BJJ, I realize that just b/c you have top position does not always mean you are winning the fight, I train with guys who have more offense off their backs.

David, you even have to give Guida credit for having a hell of a chin and making a fairly amazing comeback after being nearly stopped a few times in the first round.
I personally thought Guida and Sanchez was a draw. You have to credit both fighters for a hell of a fight.

  12. The Gooser

The fighter bonuses are as follows:

    KO of the Night:
    Tomasz Drwal

    Submission of the Night:
    Jason Dent

    Fight of the Night:
    Clay Guida vs. Diego Sanchez
    Chris Lytle vs. Kevin Burns
    Joe Stevenson vs. Nate Diaz

All of the above fighters got an extra $25,000.

  13. David

Arron, Guida does have a great chin, cardio and wrestling. That is the closest I’ll ever come to complimenting the guy though. I’m not a fan of his fighting style and his personality really gets on my nerves. Sanchez-Guida was an awesome fight and deserved FOTN, Diego really put on a show and Guida did well to survive that first round.
