Shane Douglas: Wrestling’s Latest Whore
TNA have been bringing in both old and new faces as of late. The surprise return was that of Shane Douglas. He came back at last Monday’s TV taping, and despite being in his mid 40’s, and heavier than he has ever been, TNA have bought him back as in-ring talent.
He wrestled for a short period in 2003 (for TNA) and had a match with Raven, in which he blew up so much that he vomited in the middle of the ring. He went on to retire from the ring and became a road agent for TNA. He was forced to take a leave of absence, checking himself into rehab to battle a pain killer addiction.
This is the problem I have with his return, Shane has openly admitted that he can not wrestler without pain medication, yet he worked so hard to kick this habit back in 05. People argue that the TNA schedule is light and workable for people who have been plagued with injuries. In fact they film a whole month's worth of TV in just three days, maybe Shane is goanna dose up for this period and stay painkiller free for the rest of the month.....
It’s a shame, it really is. Shane was a tremendous wrestler but how the hell, with a bad back and 60 extra pounds, is he going to hang with TNA’s top talent? When I heard they were bringing him back, I thought he was going to be a manager, an agent, an announcer or something else that doesn’t involve him being active in the ring.
I remember reading an interview with Shane in Power Slam magazine, in which he admitted he couldn’t wrestle without pain medication. He said because so many of his family and friends have died from addiction to pain killers, that it was time for him to hang up his boots. I wish I could mail him a copy of the magazine. Why cant people leave wrestling behind, is there really no life after wrestling for these people? Is the Wrestler the most true to life film to ever be made about a fictional character and how the hell do pro wrestlers really feel about being branded whores to the business?

Yet another stupid move by TNA. Please die a sick and horrible death.
I cant agree more………………..
Oh, I am sure they will die the slowest and most painfil death. I can’t understand them…..So much potential…….
TNA seems to do this every now and then, sign old employees for now apparent reason.
tna will be the company that will not go away and have all the potential in the world they will go through some great shows and then some horrible shows mostly horrible out of the great but its still a alternative to wwe and right now wwe sucks only good thing is smackdown
jmart is correct, overall its still better to have two companies.
I’m all for the choices etc and I like the fact that RoH are trying with TV as well. I’m not a fan of a company filming a months worth of material in 3 days. What happens if a wrestler gets injured on a house show. It is better that TNA is there, in theory it should make WWE better.
I feel bad for Shane. Even though he hated over the hill wrestler’s who refused to retire, just like he has become!
I know what you mean HoganMark. The sad thing is, he is only 44, thats younger than a few of the top guys in the E’. I guess he is living proof that ECW really took its toll on wrestlers, and if he hits the pain meds again, he could end up just like the people that have fallen before
him.
I watched the Raw after Pillmans death last night, they interviewed his wife who said that it was only a matter of time before pain medication would take the life of a pro wrestler. She went oin to say unfortunaltley it was Brian. This was 12 years ago for chrying out loud, so many people have died in their prime for the business and stories of people returning, broken down and admitting they cant work with out pain meds, make me sick to be a fan.
King_Benjamin The night after Pillman passed away on raw when they interviewed his wife was one of the Most Disgusting Thing’s I have ever seen in pro wrestling, I will never forget how sad that interview was.
It was sick I know and I can’t believe that nobody has learnt from it. Let me point out, I have all the Raws from 97 and have been watching them in order over the last dew months, I didn’t just stick that on, it is so hard to watch. Changing the subject, 1997’s WWF was awesome…….
I really think they should get rid of house shows all together. These guys are pushing their bodies much too far in my opinion. TNA needs to get their wrestlers into the spotlight in as many different mediums as possible not risking their health with excessive ring-work and everything that goes with it. TNA wrestlers need time off to recuperate and time to spend with their families.
TNA is light compared to wwe
I watched Shane douglas for a long time and as a teenager growing up, I saw some of the best teams put together with a manger.. Road Warriors/ Midnight Express / The 4 horseman/ so the guy cant wrestle with out pain killers, why not give him a option to manage and get some crap going..if he screws the pooch, hes gone…with the little talent or over the hill wrestlers they have, they need some spice……Hey Dixie, I know myself along with alot of other fans out their could write a better script.
