Sable Files A 100 Million Dollar Lawsuit Against The WWF
On the 7th of June 1999, Rena Mero filed a lawsuit against Vince McMahon for "negligence, breach of contract, unfair trade practices and intentional infliction of emotional distress". In true Austin Powers style, her initial asking price was a cool 100 million dollars.
Even though she did playboy, Sable claimed that she found it "unsafe and tasteless" when she refused a TV spot where her top was to be ripped off exposing her breasts. Because she refused to do it, she was stripped of the belt, therefore reducing her pay.
There are two ways to look at this. Sable was a diva who are expected to do things like this. She also had nude pictures released in a very high profile magazine, so the nudity couldn't have been a huge problem for her. Then again, the other way to look at it is that if I demoted staff because they wouldn't expose their breasts on TV, I would be sued too.
Vince and the WWE do seem to think that they are above the law sometimes and that they think that just because something is exceptable in the world of pro wrestling, it is exceptable in the world of a publicly traded company.
The WWE and Sable settled out of court and Sable returned to the WWE soon after. She even did another playboy spread with Torie Wilson.
She never did have her top ripped off on WWE television.
there is a big diffrence between being naked on TV and naked in Playboy. Kids watch WWE programming and PPV’s. I mean, putting the pictures in Playboy doesn’t guarantee that kids will not see them (I managed to track them down and I wasn’t old enough to buy a Playboy at the time), but at least its a magazine marketed exclusively to adults. Wrestling at the time may have had a mature “attitude”, but they were still marketing to kids with action figures, toy belts, and things like that.
Its a difficult situation to comment on but all I can say is Sable is a very attractive Woman.
What about when she took her top off on PPV and had 2 hand prints painted on over her bare nipples?
Also Sable has a daughter, who must about 18 about now. It will be interesting to see what she looks like? and how attractive she is.
