I am just looking forward to the DVD features and Documentary myself
and the point of this?
I cannot wait till this DVD comes out. It’s not going to be as good as the rise and fall of ecw. A lot of people are saying it’s going to be wwe side of the story on wcw. But still something any wrestling fan from the monday night war’s would love.
hellboy-
Im guessing the point is that this is a wrestling website and the post is wrestling related.
Im looking forward to this also, too bad original guys wont be in the documentary
What ever happened to the “disman?”
I don’t know JSN. But I am looking forward to this. I missed most of WCW, I hope this will sort of catch me up
DVD looks great. Never saw Booker/Lance. The rest of the matches are good.
If wcw would have let vince russo run the company the way he wanted to they would still be in business, the reason why wcw went downhill was because of the good ole boy politics and all of eric bischoffs ass kissing to the more established stars.
C’mon Russo if you are going to big yourself up at least use your real name.
Just Got the Dvd, Some things I wished they would of touched on were – Why Bishoff was fired, They Didn’t Even Mention Bret Hart on the DVD (how he came into wcw and how poorly he was used), How Thunder really did hurt Nitro, Ric Flair/Eric Bishoff’s Personal Problems and How the NWO was fantasic at first, Then Ending up Hurting WCW.
Russo is a joke He’s A Wannabe Hollywood Writer and I can’t stand him!
I got it yesterday, and nothing is said that hasn’t been said before.
The only part that I really got a kick out of was the total BURIAL of Jeff Jarrett.
yeah the dvd sucked, a lot
I didn’t like how they put Goldberg on the Same Level as Austin or the Rock. Which is totally unfair to him, Goldberg’s In-Ring Ability was very limited at that time. But He had a Gimmick that could put anyone over, Goldberg couldn’t cut a promo. Towards the End Goldberg was being used very poorly. They Never Talked about the New Blood vs. Millionaire’s Club” storyline which was Horrible and How From 2000 WCW just “Unwatchable” Some Of The Worst Things I have seen in Wrestling at that Point.
why was the storyline bad? at that time i had stopped watching wcw
Sounds like this is another poor WWE DVD based on WCW, no better than the Monday Night Wars then.
The idea behind the New Blood-Millionaire’s Club was good as it was supposed to allow the younger guys to feud with the oldies who’d held them back, with Russo backing the New Blood and Bischoff leading the Millionaire’s Club but like everything in 2000 WCW, it was ruined by awful booking and backstage politics. Russo and Bischoff both ended up being in charge of the New Blood, who really shouldn’t have been the heels in my opinion (what’s wrong with young guys wanting a chance to shine?), the usual suspects made life difficult for the young guys and refused to put them over (Sting, Hogan) and the matches were abysmal. Not to mention that at this time they turned Goldberg heel and made Russo and David Arquette the world champions (and almost Tank Abbott but thankfully Russo was overruled), plus had so many swerves that it became a joke.
Wasted opportunity to put over the young guys and in the end most of the main eventers like Hogan just quit, so there was nothing left for WCW to build on at a time when the WWF was putting on excellent TV and making millions, shame really as wrestling has suffered since WCW collapsed.
A few points:
-Russo is not bad as he has made TNA Impact quite good. Eric was no saint as he put Nash as head booker.
-Goldberg was huge and he was WCW’s equivalent to Austin, back in high school that was the dream match.
-Lance Storm held the WCW TV Title, WCW Cruiserweight Title and WCW US Title which he renamed the Canadian title at the same time. He then went on to have a match for the WCW World title against Booker, but did not win it.
Yeah WCW in 2000 It Just Became too “unwatchable” and at that time the Company was in Horrible Shape.. I like the Monday Night Wars DVD better. Pole Foam Yeah the “Dream Match” was Stone Cold vs Goldberg at that time. WCW had so much Young Talent like Chris.Jericho,Rey,Benoit,Eddie,Malenko But They never gave them a push. It was always over the hill wrestlers like Hogan,Macho Man,Pipper etc. That were always in the Main Event and Never giving the young Guys a Chance.
David I do Agree with you Wrestling Has Suffered, But WWE is not as bad as everyone say’s it is Right Now. Of Course If WCW was still around Wrestling Would be Different. But TNA keeps growing and growing as a Company We will have the Monday Night Wars Again down the Line Again. IMPACT vs RAW will happened eventually. Having Monday Night Wars Again will only make the WWE Better and Wrestling more exciting.
TNA won’t ever reach the levels of WCW, they don’t have the budget to compete with WWE. The only reason that WCW ever had a chance of succeeding was because it was owned by Turner and had a guaranteed slot on his channel. WCW had money to burn (which at times they pretty much did with stupid things like KISS concerts and use films to promote main events e.g. Sting/Vader) and that allowed them to sign up huge stars and put on TV shows with excellent production values that blew the WWF out of the water, iMpact on the other hand looks small-time compared to the live WWE shows and most of the PPVs don’t look any different to the TV show which isn’t helping either. Crucially WCW at their peak could translate their TV audience into consumers who bought their merchandise and PPVs, again something that TNA have so far been unable to do. The fact that TNA continually shoot themselves in the foot with poor booking as well as through the big backstage feud between Angle and Jarrett isn’t helping matters either.
To be fair to WWE, some of their programming is good but unfortunately the only show that I’m around to see is Raw and since Trump “bought” the show it has become unwatchable. It’s a shame because ECW and SD are putting on good shows but they aren’t getting the ratings, largely due to them both being stuck on unpopular channels.
The biggest competitor to WWE and wrestling in general is the UFC, they are dominating the PPV market, with Lesnar being their top star at the moment, and are attracting the 18-35 demographic that Vince has lost by going to PG. Unlike TNA they have a huge budget and can attract the lost wrestling audience as well as a wider audience who dislike wrestling because MMA is a competetive sport. Right now the UFC looks unstoppable and boxing and wrestling are no longer able to take their audience for granted, or else they will lose them for good to the UFC.
Well Of Course TNA doesn’t nearly have the Money that WCW had to burn. TNA is growing everyday and But Vince Russo(for me) is holding TNA Back.
I wouldn’t Say UFC is “unstopable”, WWE Dominates UFC for Tv Ratings,Merchandise,DVD’s too. WWE has A Huge Audience too, There PPV’s Buyrates have been going down. UFC is doing very well right now, But so Was Boxing in 1980’s/1990’s. Yes I do Agree UFC is top dog for PPV right now, UFC has been very popular (I would say since 2005). No Disrepect I don’t Like UFC, I’m a WWE Guy Through and Through. But Well See How Much Longer UFC dominates?
Point is TNA will never be able to compete without that money, they are only growing slowly in the TV ratings and barely any of that audience buys their PPVs, as the recent disastrous figures show.
UFC is destroying WWE in PPV buyrates, without having a weekly TV show to draw buyers. They’re TV coverage consists of Fight Nights, which get excellent ratings, TUF shows, with the latest series starring Kimbo SIice guaranteed to get huge ratings and old fights on the Unleashed show. They also use the Countdown shows to promote PPVs the week before which have proven to be a success. Obviously the UFC are doing something right because the majority of their TV audience are buying PPVs, 7 of last years top 10 PPVs were UFC shows and this year the UFC got 1.5 million buys for UFC 100. The UFC are growing internationally as well, getting huge ratings in Mexico for their PPVs as well as a large audience in Europe including the UK. They are taking over the international markets that WWE have relied on for years, selling out huge arenas in this country including the MEN and O2 with cards that don’t even have the big names or title fights.
MMA is a growing sport and the UFC are leading the way, wrestling and boxing promoters need to take notice because they are losing their 18-35 audience to Zuffa.
David Agreed, 7,000 people ordered Tna’s Second Biggest PPV Slammiversary of the Year that’s horrible. Seem’s Like Your A Big UFC Fan, I agree With Everything you said on that UFC is doing very good with there PPV Buyrates and there Business. But My Point Is That WWE is still Doing Very Well!
UFC will Continue to Dominate PPV, WWE Has to Start Making New Stars, I have Been Saying for year’s New Blood is needed in the WWE. How Much Longer will the Undertaker,HBK etc.. be in the WWE, How much do they have left in the tank. Even Vince McMahon Know’s WWE has to start Building New Stars and This Next Decade WWE Could be in Trouble. Executive Vice President of Talent Relations John Laurinaitis only goes Big Strong Guy’s who cannot wrestle, Instead of Going After Smaller wrestlers who actually love the Business who have heart. Singing Bryan Danielson was a great Move. But when JR was Executive Vice President of Talent Relations He signed guys like Stone Cold,The Rock etc.. The “PG Rating” Is hurting the wwe too, But Sadly I don’t see it Changing.
The Monday night war dvd is pretty dam good as well as this. If you can find it anywhere I would grab it. It is a very good watch. Probably alot of the same stuff on there.
