Dana White On E:60
Dana White featured on ESPNs E:60 last week. The 13 minute feature piece on him focuses on his out spoken and often controversial personality and his ability to run a company the size of the UFC with it.
It's an interesting view taken by ESPN. They question Dana White as the right man to represent the sport of MMA while in their bid to legalise MMA in New York and ask if he would be more of a hindrance to it's image than a help.
It got me thinking. As an MMA fan I like Dana White, but I wonder if it's the Dana White character that I like. I think I find him so interesting because he is the loudest character that the UFC has ever had.
But is that the guy that we want representing us as the business leader of MMA? Would a more grounded, sensible business man serve the image of MMA better?

Piss on ESPN and New york Dana White brought back the company from the dead and with it the sport. Fighters fight and White is the face of it. He is an asshole that loves to see fights and will not let it turn into the thing he hates which is boxing politics. He is Don King with out the slimy greed and crazy hair. This debate is like having one about golf and weather it needs tiger woods. This is america and people should have the right to be real not some monkey suited slick hair preppy asshole who steals millons from the fans or the sport. Thats what we have Vinnie Mac for.
This piece really annoyed me, I’d already seen the footage that they shot on the ESPN website before they released the finished product and suprise suprise they edited it to make Dana look like a dick. When he was asked about not paying for Tito’s back surgery he explained that the insurers wouldn’t cover it because he claimed that he got injured in training in his post-fight interview (using it as an excuse for his defeat) rather than the fight itself. It had nothing to do with Dana, he can’t tell his insurers who to pay out to and who not, but all they showed was the clip where he went off on one about not caring about Tito, making it look like it was his decision.
As for the legal streetfighting remark, this interviewer and the supposed fan showed what clueless morons they are. MMA is no more of a street fight than boxing or BJJ, it is a legitimate sport that is regulated by athletic commissions in order to keep it safe for the fighters and allow real athletes to prosper.
Bob Reilly is a corrupt moron, apparently his whole beef with the UFC is because he is being paid by a group that are in conflict with the Fertitta’s Station Casinos not because of some bogus “too violent” argument. The guy has no right to be a politician and his views should not be broadcast by mainstream TV. Anyone that still calls MMA “Ultimate Fighting” is an idiot anyway but for someone to blatantly lie about why they dislike the sport and the organisations involved to the extent of blocking its legislation, costing their state millions of dollars as well as preventing his constituents from watching their favourite sport in their home state has no right to call himself a politician.
