Brock Lesnar vs Shane Carwin at UFC 108 (fight rescheduled)

Shane CarwinBrock Lesnar's (4-1) next opponent has been announced and to the surprise of many, it's undefeated Heavyweight prospect Shane Carwin (11-0) who is getting the next title shot at UFC 106. Carwin was previously expected to face fellow undefeated prospect Cain Velasquez (5-0) at UFC 104 with the winner expected to get the next shot but now Carwin has been fastracked to a title fight with Lesnar and Velasquez is now set to fight IFL and Affliction veteran Ben Rothwell (30-6) at 104.

Apparently the reason for this change is because of the developing rivalry between Lesnar and Carwin, after Shane blasted Lesnar following his controversial antics at UFC 100, describing his behaviour as "lame" as well as taking a snipe at his pro wrestling career by stating that there are "no scripts" in MMA. Dana White has gone on record as saying that Carwin "hates" Lesnar. In an interview with Sports Illustrated, Carwin explained why he dislikes Lesnar.

“I think hate is a strong word, but yeah, I hate what he did after UFC 100. I hate that he disrespected the greatest sporting fans in the world and I can’t wait to fight him. … Really it comes down to respect and I do not think that he respects the sport or the fans of this sport. He may be well known, but fame does not equal respect.”

I have to say that Carwin has mastered something that very few professional fighters can and that is the art of self-promotion. By playing up to the fans and acting as their hero in response to the controversial Lesnar, he has won himself a lot of new supporters and made himself the most marketable opponent for Lesnar, despite not being experienced, a household name and only holding one big win, a KO over Gabriel Gonzaga at UFC 96. If he had have kept quiet like Cain then there is no doubt that he would not be getting this title fight this early and would instead have had to defeat a difficult opponent in Velasquez and even then may have been snubbed in favour of the Cro Cop-Dos Santos or Couture-Nogueira winner. Instead Carwin has played a very shrewd game and made a fight with Lesnar a very intriguing match-up and is guaranteed to be a big draw, as the UFC's most popular cards are those headlined by controversial characters like Lesnar and Tito Ortiz in grudge matches. Cain in particular needs to learn how to market himself as that was the difference between a title fight and facing Ben Rothwell.

lesnar_weigh_inAs for the fight itself, I think that Shane matches up better than anyone against Lesnar, he is one of the very few Heavyweights who will come in at a similar size to Lesnar as well as being one of the few who has the wrestling ability to deal with Lesnar. Add to that heavy hands a strong chin as well as a lot of momentum, having won all of his 11 professional fights by stoppage and coming off a brutal KO win over a former title contender, and you have a dangerous opponent for Lesnar. However, the key to this fight could be the experience on big stage events as Lesnar has made a living for years of performing and fighting in front of huge, loud and aggressive crowds whilst this is Carwin's first ever main event. Shane's cardio is also questionable as unlike Lesnar he has never gone the distance and he has a full-time job, which affects his training and he doesn't sound like he is going to quit it in the near future.

"My reasons for keeping my job are not about the money or time. I have a young son that has been my rock through the highs of heading to the NFL, to the lows of no one in the NFL knowing [my] name. When everything seemed dark he was the light that kept me going. I knew right then that everything my mother had told me about getting my degree, putting my education before the NFL were as much for my well being as they were for those that were relying on me."

That could be the big difference in this fight as the mental game is a huge part of fighting and it's going to be difficult for a part-time inexperienced fighter to cope with the presssures of a full-time job and a high profile main event. Still it has all of the potential to be a close and exciting fight and in all likelihood is not going to go to the judges' scorecards. So who will the PWBites be cheering for, the working man's hero or the arrogant villain and who do you think is going to come out on top?

*CARD UPDATE*

The co-main event of UFC 106 has been changed, following an ACL injury suffered by Mark "The Hammer" Coleman.  Instead for his return to the UFC following his public falling out with UFC President Dana White and reconstructive back surgery, "The Huntington Beach Bad Boy" Tito Ortiz is now set to face Forrest Griffin in a rematch of their classic fight at UFC 59, which Ortiz won by split decision.  Ortiz confirmed the fight on his twitter page.

"So the match has been set!!!! Forrest vs Ortiz 2 live Nov 21st Las Vegas PPV. Let the Punishment begin!!!!"

This is a rematch both fighters and fans have been wanting to see for years and is a great addition to the card.  Both fighters are big names and proven draws and they both are in dire need of a win to return to the top of the stacked Light Heavyweight division.  With Lesnar, Ortiz and Griffin on the same card, UFC 106 is guaranteed to have a huge buyrate and could even top the record breaking 1.5 million of UFC 100.

*FIGHT UPDATE*

Lesnar-Carwin has been postponed due to Brock pulling out of the fight after suffering from an illness during his training camp.  This is rumoured to be swine flu and he was said to have suffered from upper respiratory issues, fever and extreme fatigue.  The news was broke by Kevin Iole of Yahoo.  Dana White had this to say:

“He said he’s never been this sick in his life.  He said it’s been going on for a long time and he just hasn’t been able to shake it.”

Brock's co-manager Brian Stegeman elaborated further:

“Honestly, he’s been sick since the beginning of this camp and he’s had to take days off throughout.  We kept thinking that he’d get better and be back at it, but it finally got to a point here where we were looking at a situation where Brock would have just two weeks to train for this fight.  That’s just not fair to him.  There’s no way a two-week training camp is even close to being fair to him and we all realized that.  We kept hoping Brock would respond and get better, but it just lingered.”

Needless to say Shane Carwin was disappointed by the news.  He expressed dismay on his Twitter when he found out the news from Yahoo before Zuffa and has said that the fight is now set for UFC 108, which will take place on 2 January 2010 on a card rumoured to be main evented by a Middleweight title fight between Anderson Silva and Vitor Belfort.

Obviously this is disastrous news for the UFC, after UFC 103 got destroyed in the buyrate by Mayweather-Marquez and the Lyoto Machida-Mauricio "Shogun" Rua ended in a controversial decision win for Machida that left commentators, fighters and fans amazed and appalled by the decision, the news that 2009's big fight on a card guaranteed to sell has been cancelled.

The Tito Ortiz-Forrest Griffin rematch is now set to main event and as big a draw as those 2 are, it hardly compares to a stacked card main evented by the draw of MMA in Lesnar.  The popularity of this post shows how interested people are in this fight, so to miss out on it at this cruical stage is disastrous news for the UFC at a time when the promotion could do with some good news.

Lesnar will crush him. Until somebody steps up in real dominant form Brock will not be dethroned. Although I want carwin to win

  2. Jorge

It will be a not go the distance affair, expect an explosive fight, Lesnar should not get cocky here!

  3. JAMES

carwin is going to dethrone him in such a painful manner it will be the fight of the year no doubt.

  4. JAMES

LESNAR HAS WON BECAUSE OF HIS INCREDIBLE RETARD STRENGTH. HIS TECHNIQUE THAT HE HAS SHOWN COULD BE LEARNED IN ABOUT ONE YEAR OF MMA TRAINING AND HE DOESNT HAVE MUCH MORE THAN THAT. WITH CARWIN WHO HAS WON MORE FIGHTS AND IS A MUCH BETTER TECHNICAL FIGHTER. EVEN IF BROCK IS STRONGER AND I DOUBT IT, HIS STRENGTH WILL BE NEUTRALIZED BY SHANE’S MONSTROUS HANDS (5XL) AND BETTER SKILL,

I’M CALLIG CARWIN BY SPINNING BACKFIST IN THE 1ST

  5. Arron

    wow James.

What can be said to that.

considering Shane Carwin got rocked by Gabriel Gonzaga in the 1st round and managed a recovery. Brock Lesnar knows how to win fights vs any kind of fighter. No one will outwrestle Brock Lesnar.

Shane Carwin has never attempted a spinning backfist in UFC history or his mma career. Lesnar will win in 2.

  6. Could Lesnar beat Anderson Silva? Id buy that match(well not really but you know what I mean).

  7. JAMES

AARON GOOD POINT ON THE BACKFIST. WILL BE A GOOD FIGHT FOR SURE AND IT WILL BE A BATTLE OF ABSOLUTE MONSTERS. TRUE THAT BROCK WONT BE OUTWRESTLED BUT I DO THINK THAT CARWINS STYLE IS MUCH CLEANER THAN BROCKS. A FIGHTER CAN ONLY WIN WITH FAST RECKLESS ATTACKS FOR SO LONG. LOOK AT FORREST. VERY STRONG BUT NEEDS TO CLEAN UP HIS STRIKING BEFORE HE GETS BEAT BY EVERYBODY. SAME WITH BROCK. IF HE CLEANS HIS STRIKING UP HE’LL BE UNSTOPPABLE, IF NOT CARWIN WILL TAKE HIM DOWN IN THE FIRST ROUND STANDING UP.

  8. rich

i agree with James , Brock is sloppy(love the retard strength comment LOL). I think the fight will go like this – Brock tries to take-down Shane , Shane ties him up , Brock thinks or maybe says aloud H@ly Sh#t this guy is to strong, They break and Brock throws his Fed-Ex next day delivery sloppy right hook. Meanwhile Shane finishes leaving updated comments on his laptop to his fans (because he has respect for who make mma what it is today THE FANS) , Shane responds with a devastating combination rocking Brock, Brock panics and charges Shane , Brock then wakes up to Shane finishing up his ground and pound and big John Mc pulling Shane off him. Shane’s arm is raised and as everyone at the fight stands up Shane thanx them all graciously. because he’s got “CLASS”. Before all you Lesnar fans get your panties in a bunch i do think brock is first class athlete “CAPABLE” of beating anyone that includes Shane and if all the stars are in alignment and at the same time there is a lunar eclipse and Brock eats a whole box of wheaties maybe even Fedor.

    KNOW WHAT!!!

  9. David

Rich, Big John McCarthy will not referee this fight, after he retired as a ref and took commentating jobs for promotions like Affliction the UFC don’t want him on their cards, supposedly Dana doesn’t think that his heart is in being a ref anymore as he’s too bothered about making money. Pretty stupid on both sides in my opinion as Big John thinks he’s great when really he’s just a good ref, he’s the Graham Poll of MMA, but Dana is putting the credibility of his company’s fights into question as Big John is easily the best ref in MMA and by missing out on him we are going to see more disastrous decisions like the Riley-Nelson stoppage or the Brown-Sell late stoppage which is bad news for the fans, fighters, promoters and the sport in general.

As for this fight I have no idea how it’s going to go, personally I think that it will end quick like all of Carwin’s fights because he either KO’s you or takes a big punch himself. Both are excellent wrestlers and strong strikers without a lot of technique, I expect the first man to hit the big shot to KO the other man. I’ve always said that Carwin is the biggest threat to Lesnar’s title and I’ll be impressed if Brock can survive this challenge, his best chance is to tire out Carwin and g&p him in the later rounds once he’s gassed as Shane is too dangerous to stand and bang with.

  10. Ivan

Shane Carwin is a big man with a lot of power in those fists, outstanding wrestling and good MMA technique and is a much cleaner, tougher, and overall better MMA fighter than Brock Lesnar. However, Brock has shown that he has the ability to transcend various sports and has not only competed in professional wrestling and while wrestling is fake he showed he had the agility, power and credentials to do the aerial acrobatics that some of the much smaller WWE wrestlers perform. I think all of the people here are primarily MMA fans and really wouldn’t even consider watching a psuedo-sport like WWE or TNA wrestling because of the idiotic angles and trash-talking, but if you guys saw the agility, raw power, wrestling ability and toughness of Brock for the 4 years he competed in the WWE you wouldn’t be doubting him to much now. I do believe that Shane Carwin is the most legit POWER threat to his title right now, and that Dana White is trying to feed him to the wolves in his first title defense to appease the delicate sensibilities of the MMA fans who were pissed off at Brock Lesnar’s diss of their beloved sport when he beat Frank Mir, but Brock Lesnar is much smarter, more shrewd and totally more capable of doing ANYTHING ATHLETIC IN MMA, FOOTBALL, PRO WRESTLING OR ANY SPORT HE WISHES TO COMPETE IN AND WILL ONLY GET BETTER AND BETTER. While Shane Carwin is an outstanding wrestler and has heavy-handed power in his fists and is capable of knocking Brock down with one punch and this fight COULD end with whoever has the better knockout power ( which we will see in the actual fight ), I think Brock is going to bring his agility, freakish strength, latent wrestling skills that have been shown yet in an MMA match, raw power and killer instinct to this match and I think he will defeat Shane Carwin, maybe not through raw power but through superior wrestling ability. Wait and see, people, wait and see. Don’t be too touchy about MMA, after all it is only a sport and everybody here seems to not be looking at the overall picture. MMA is big money and all that people can see in it’s future are dollar ( and Euro ) signs, and Brock Lesnar is the right champion at the right time now and for many years to come. I know I’m right, go ahead and trash talk all you want.

  11. David

Ivan, this is primarily a pro wrestling blog so the majority of posters are wrestling fans rather than MMA fans, though personally I’ve gone off wrestling and find MMA much more interesting to watch. I get what you are saying about Brock being a freak athlete, which he has proven countless times. It’s crazy how quick Lesnar is considering his size and I have a lot of respect for him as an athlete and a personality. He is the biggest draw in MMA today, possibly in fighting period, and I’ve been entertained by all of his fights and interviews, personally I think that he is great for the sport as we don’t want every fighter to act or perform the same, it makes it more interesting to have heels in the sport as you never know what a guy like Lesnar will say or do next. As long as he doesn’t do anything illegal he can act how he wants as far as I’m concerned.

However, the only thing that Brock’s pro wrestling career brings to the table is charisma and a fanbase, it has no impact whatsoever on his fighting. If anything his wrestling career has been detrimental to his performances, as taking chair shots to the head won’t do your chin any good and the injuries his time in wrestling caused may limit .

Brock is a monster with outstanding wrestling, as well as speed and strength, that makes him a force to be reckoned with at HW. But, this will be the first time that he has faced an opponent as big and strong as him, making the undefeated KO artist Carwin his biggest threat to date. Shane is getting this fight because he has done a great job at getting his name out there, calling out Brock so this is the fight that makes the most sense and will be the biggest draw, not because Dana wants to appease the hardcore MMA fans.

It’ll be interesting to see which man has the better cardio, wrestling and punching power, personally I think that this fight won’t last long with one of these giants winning early in the first by KO, though I want to wait until closer to UFC 106 before making a proper predicition.

  12. Ivan

David your point is well taken, and I actually haven’t seen too many of Shane Carwin’s fights but I know he hasn’t beaten anyone of note and I won’t deny he’s a much more experienced MMA fighter than Brock, but quality counts, and Brock has beaten 3 top notch opponents in Mir, Couture and Herring, and personally I think Shane Carwin matches up very well with Brock but I don’t know if his cardio or agility can stand up to Brock’s. Since this a pro wrestling website ( which I didn’t know until you pointed it out, thanks ) then you know what kind of athlete Brock is, and I’ve looked at it from all possible angles and just this morning I was thinking about this fight and was going to put my money down on Carwin, but then I got the flashbacks of Brock’s botched shooting star press at Wrestlemania XIX, and then I remembered his agility and speed and I think that will be the difference in this fight. Honestly, for his size pound for pound wouldn’t you say he matches up with a Billy Kidman, Jeff Hardy, Evan Bourne, John Morrison, or Rey Misterio Jr.? THAT is what is going to set him apart, and I’m looking at this not from a fan’s perspective, but from Brock’s perspective. He is going to have to bring everything he has to this fight cos the MMA world wants him to lose badly and he is the villian in this scenario, and like you I’ve ” crossed the line ” to MMA but I’m still happy when one of my boys from the fake world of pro wrestling can make it in another sport, so I’m happy that guys like Brock and Bobby Lashley are making their mark in the MMA world. Sorry, but I’m still going with Brock.

  13. Arron

Ivan, Shane Carwin in his last fight defeated Gabriel Gonzaga, the same Gabriel Gonzaga who KTFO Mirko Crop Cop, the same who was the #1 contender for the UFC title at one point, clearly a very legitimate contender.

  14. rich

So David what will you say if Shane wins this fight. Brock has relied on his size and being able to smother his opponents , which with the size match-ups he has had so far , that was a pretty good strategy. Brock better change his style for the Carwin fight or he will be in for a rude awakening if he thinks he will just steamroll Shane like he did with his previous opponents. I really think Brock is smart enough to know this , but since all he has shown is this smother and pound style , does he really have any other mma skills? Right now he has shown Massive size, speed, agility and is an outstanding wrestler that has smothered and pounded “smaller ” opponents. Is that all there is in his arsenal? What will Brock do? Does anyone know? Does Brock know?

  15. rich

sorry David that last post was for Ivan

  16. Ivan

You guys know your stuff and you’re right Rich, Brock is certainly capable of showing his wrestling skills but only has smothered his opponents thus far. The reason I am defending Brock is cos I do think he will have to change his strategy, and if the Brock Lesnar I know wants to keep his title he will have to. Brock Lesnar is a supremely gifted heavyweight athlete and has to use all his tools in this fight with Carwin, and I know three things Brock has FOR SURE that Carwin doesn’t but hasn’t used:

    1. Superior wrestling ability, which he has yet to show cos he HASN’T had to 2. Superior cardio, and just looking at Carwin I don’t think he will be able to go 25 minutes with Brock, not that the fight might last that long, but then again we haven’t seen Carwin get past the first round cos the stone hands he has, but I can almost guarantee you that Brock’s cardio is better than Carwin’s 3. Better agility and moves better than Carwin for a big man, no question about it. Brock Lesnar is not the type of athlete to doubt himself and I don’t see him laying down for Carwin in this fight, Carwin is talking smack and trying to defend the honor of the UFC, it’s fans and MMA in general but controversy creates cash and Brock is ALL THAT AND MORE, AND I DO THINK HE WILL BEAT SHANE CARWIN. You guys can talk shit to me all you want if I am wrong, but we’ll see in November.

  17. James is just a typical hater. Speak facts only, bud. Brock Lesnar will still control Carwin on the ground. If you say Cariwn is stronger, back it up with facts. Brock has a 720 deadlift and 695 squat to his credit. Listen in Sports Illustrated magazine. The comment retard strength is used to bash a man’s hard work and gifts. Of course you’ll never get anywhere close to his lifts.

  18. rich

No… the comment retard strength was actually a compliment to Brock because he is an extremely strong athletic fighter with that being probably at least 95% of the reason (5% wrestling) he has beaten the (smaller) fighters he has faced. In other words if you are confused “Brock wins on his athletic abilities and retard strength not his wrestling ability and for sure no other mma style. Shane Carwin will not be bullied by Brock , so with that being said will some one please tell me how Brock will approach this fight…… with his stand-up……..his jujitsu…….his mui thai……his judo……………………………..ROTFLMAO!!!!!! At best brock may take Shane down and waller an him and throw some pitter patter hammer fists. Please respond to this i would really like to hear your ideas on what type of fighting style you think brock is good at and will use against Shane to win.

    (Cawin wins by KO)

  19. David

Rich, Brock is a more decorated wrestler than Carwin and is the slightly bigger man so he’s got the slight advantage in both of those areas, though Shane proved against Gabe that he’s tough to keep down. Both of them have powerful strikes albeit limited technique and whoever lands the first clean punch will win the fight in my opinion, unless Brock is able to takedown Carwin and destroy him with g&p like he did against Herring and Mir. I’m not sure who’ll win yet, though I’m leaning towards Brock at the moment, but this fight will end by stoppage guaranteed.

  20. Claudiu

I sure hope that Shane will win. I am tired of the attitude of a man that has only power and no technique like Lesnar. Lesnar is powerful but this is not for him, maybe is better for him to chop wood or work in construction business then to fight in the octagon. I do not know how many fans he has but one thing is for sure, in the last fight the comments were bad and for sure he did not get new fans.

  21. David

Breaking news from Twitter, Tito-Forrest 2 is happening at 106. Tito and Anik confirmed it, Dana broke the news to Yahoo. Much better fight in my opinion and a huge match for both men who badly need a win to shut up the critics and prove that they’re still top 10. 106 is going to have a monster buyrate now, 3 of the UFC’s biggest draws are all on the card. I’ll do a post on it tomorrow.

  22. Ivan

This is for Rich… Rich, you asked how Brock will approach this fight. The answer is right there in the very question you asked. HE WON’T. CARWIN WILL. And do know why? Cos Carwin is the aggressor here, he threw down the guantlet to Brock cos Brock dissed all his retarded MMA marks, he saw a golden oppurtunity to get himself a title shot, said a few choice great-sounding words that has the whole MMA world in a frenzy and out for Brock’s blood. Carwin has had plenty to say, but what has Brock said? Absolutely nothing. He has just kept his mouth shut. Well, no he hasn’t. Read the article about Brock on the Yahoo! Sports UFC page right now and you’ll see what I’m talking about when it comes to Brock. He’s a MENTALLY TOUGH OPPONENT, dude, not some guy who has to compete with sheer power and all that shit. And while Cariwn the mechanical engineer is a smart guy, he doesn’t do this full-time and the only guy he ever beat that mattered at all was Gabriel Gonzage, the very man who because of his fat Porky Pig ham legs beat Cro Cop with a lucky kick and then the UFC hype machine thought the had something going with him. I can see Shane Cariwn as the most lethal contender to Brock’s title out there right now, and it’s going to be a fuckin’ war and will end in spectacular fashion, but since I am a Brock Lesnar fan, and proud to admit it, and not ashamed of any of his accomplishments including his WWE stuff the Brock Lesnar I know from watching almost everything he has ever done on TV won’t let some guy with aspirations of glory rattle him just cos HE FEELS, Cariwn feels indignant about what Brock said to the MMA idiots who are just as bad if not worst than the wrestling morons. Sorry, Brock’s still gonna win just based on the sheer fact he’ll tough it out just to humble Shane ” Fi-FI-Fo-Fum ” Carwin.

  23. David

Ivan, there was nothing lucky about Gonzaga’s win over Cro Cop, he took him down and destroyed him with ground and pound then was unfairly stood up before timing a head kick perfectly and almost decapitating Cro Cop. Gonzaga has excellent kicks, arguably the most powerful in the sport, even when Randy blocked one it broke his arm. Gonzaga’s weakness is not his skillset, it’s the mental game as he can’t deal with pressure and when the fight gets tough he breaks. Randy and Werdum both beat him because he gave up when things weren’t going his way, while a Carwin punch will KO anyone. Gabe’s cardio has also let him down in the past. A big strong well rounded fighter with great BJJ and powerful striking should make Gabe a worldbeater but because of his questionable cardio as well as him being a mental midget he can rarely beat top competition.

  24. Ivan

Honestly you got me there David cos I’ve only seen Gabriel Gonzaga in his mental midget fights and I haven’t been impressed at all, how do you think Lesnar will fare against Carwin? I don’t what you’re saying but I think you have to agree with me that Brock isn’t the slouch that everybody thinks he is. I think he’s just getting the short end of the stick cos he’s an asshole who doesn’t respect the sport or the fans, but his abilities are being overlooked and Carwin is being positioned as the Messiah. Your thoughts?

  25. David

Lesnar gets a hard-time from traditional fans that resent his WWE background as well as personality, so they ignore his great skills. Whilst he is still a novice in MMA, Lesnar has genuine talent, he is arguably the best wrestler in the HW division, coming in with NCAA championships so he clearly has some skills in that department and can’t just takedown his opponents because he’s big. He’s also got very powerful hands, as the fights with Couture, Mir and Herring proved. What he lacks in BJJ and striking technique wise he makes up for in size, strength and speed. If he can work on his boxing and BJJ then Lesnar has the potential to be a worldbeater at HW, the fact that he is already a UFC champion and holds wins over 3 quality opponents despite only having 5 fights shows how dominant he could be if he works on his technique.

However Carwin will be a stiff test because he’s too big to be bullied by Brock and also has good wrestling albeit not as good as Lesnar’s as well as KO power in his hands. Whilst the only top opponent he beat was Gonzaga, he is still a threat to anyone in the division. If Brock can survive the early onslaught from Carwin and take him down then wear him out with ground and pound, he will have a huge advantage as Carwin has rarely been on his back and has never gone the distance like Brock has so the part-time fighter will surely gas, however if either man hits a big punch then it’s lights out. I’m leaning towards Brock winning by TKO in rounds 2 or 3 after brutal ground and pound once Carwin’s gassed (personally I think that the pressure Carwin has put on himself by being the saviour of MMA will cost him in his first main event) though I wouldn’t be surprised if either man lays the other out with one punch early in the first.

  26. james

i am not a hater ronald. i love watching brock fight and have nothing personal against him. clearly he is strong so the stats were un needed. as i said long ago this will be fight of the year and i like both guys equally. but i still think that shane is gonna technically dominate brock to a state of unconciousness that he couldnt even fathom.

  27. Rich

Ivan,Ivan,Ivan………Are you the president of the Block Lesnar fanclub or what. I applaud you for your loyalty to the fighter you follow. You seem very learned on Lesnar history. i have to admit a percentage of why i say Shane will beat Block is because i don’t like him as a “fighter”. I have only respect for Brock Lesnar the freakish athletic and monster of a wrestler. I have been talking Shane up quite a bit online and truly believe he is gonna beat Brock. But……the comment you have made about Shane being the only “lethal contender” to take Brock’s title….LOL Shane will be a very tough contender for Brock i think at least a top 10 heavyweight. There is only “ONE” heavyweight champ and he does not fight in the UFC he is only 34 years old and his resume speaks for itself. Alot of people say he is getting old and sloppy (mostly “ufc fans/not mma fans). His name is…………………

Fedor Emeliananko if you are not learned on him go to youtube and search for ……………………….

The Greatest Fighter to have Ever Lived 2.0 and watch what the “The Last Emperor” does to all of his opponents. Please anyone argue with me on this post.

    Later……..

  28. David

Rich, Fedor is a legend and easily the best HW in the world, however it’s a shame that he chose building up the M-1 brand over superfights in the UFC. The fight with Grim Rogers excites me and is the fight that should have been made by Affliction to replace Fedor-Barnett, however after that his options at Strikeforce are limited. Overreem won’t fight in the US again and Werdum was poor in the UFC and doesn’t have the striking or work ethic required to be a competetive opponent. Big Foot Silva would be a good opponent, if he can get his license back (fighting in Japan during a drug suspension was a stupid thing to do) and he can beat Werdum. There’s also a chance of him fighting freaks in Japan or roided up monsters like Barnett (caught 3 times) and Overreem (no way was that bulk up natural and he avoids drug tests like the plague).

I’d much rather see him face the likes of Lesnar, Carwin, Dos Santos, Velasquez, Gonzaga, Rothwell as well as older HWs like Couture (I know he’s dropped down but after all of the hype it has to happen if Fedor ever signs with the UFC) and Big Nog (Cro Cop’s retiring so forget that rematch) and even Mir and Kongo would be interesting fights, mainly because Fedor could destroy 2 of my least favourite fighters. Most of all I’d like to see Fedor face other p4p greats like Anderson Silva and Lyoto Machida at a CW, because both of them are a similar size and are just as talented as Fedor so those fights would prove who the greatest is (other than GSP who is far too small to fight any of them, even Andy).

I would be very happy to see Fedor fight the best competition including monsters like Lesnar and Carwin as well as world class fighters like Andy and Lyoto but I’ll have to settle for Grim Rogers before cursing M-1 and Fedor’s business ambitions for costing MMA fans these awesome fights.

  29. Ivan

Rich I’m LMAO at your comment I know plenty about our great Last Emperor but as long as he isn’t signed to the UFC I won’t mention him. Once Brock beats Shane Carwin ( or rather if, I will eat crow if I’m wrong ) I’m sure Dana White will make a beeline real quick for the Last Emperor, but Strikeforce is a pretty strong company right now so Dana’s window is rapidly closing on Emelianenko. Once they are at each other’s throat’s though, and if… I do wonder about Brock’s chances with that guy. I know I wouldn’t want to face him!

  30. tard1243

RETARD STRENGTH, WELL US TARDS CAN TAKE A BEATING AND KEEP GOING, DONT COUNT THE GUY OUT BECAUSE OF A CHROMOZONE DEFFICIENCY, MY MONEY IS ON LESNAR.

  31. Ivan

As many of you have undoubtedly heard by now, Brock has pulled out of the UFC 105 main event with Shane Carwin due to, Ahem, ” illness “. The sportwriters are describing his particular ailment as ” interfering with his ability to train ” and also that ” he has never been this sick in his entire life, and we don’t know if it’s the H1N1 virus that’s causing it “. The way they’re talking about his illness I would expect to see Brock on a hospital bed within a week, but I think it’s a copout. How could he do this to me, and all his fans? I sure do hope he is legitmately sick and not a yellow-bellied coward looking to stall for time against Carwin, I never thought this would happen. Could it be that Brock is really sick, is scared, or doubts his ability to beat Carwin? Do all you guys think Brock is really sick, or is just plain chicken? I never thought I would be throwing in the towel to RIch but it looks like I’ll have to. Thank God I didn’t plunk my money on the fight yet, and if does go on at UFC 108 I won’t bet on it at all. Carwin will be like a raging bull looking to gore a skinny wimpy matador. Fuck Brock, it had better be H1N1 or I’m going to piledrive him.

Ivan, I added the latest on Brock pulling out at the bottom of this post. No chance did he fake an illness, he was unable to train because he caught swine flu and wasn’t able to train. He’d get stripped of the belt if he pulled out of the fight because of a fake illness, even Carwin admitted that he’s caught that virus before and struggled badly with it. I’m surprised that the most pro-Brock PWBite has suddenly turned on him, it’s not like he bailed to become an actor and the fight is postponed not cancelled. Carwin will still get his opportunity, this just allows Brock to come into the fight on the back of a proper camp instead of an undertrained sickly mess.

I heard from a little birdie that is cycling between fights and was afraid he would not pass the pre-fight substance screening. (i do not believe this but it is something to wonder about?).

  34. Ivan

Well that explains it then. I’ve heard about the swine flu but nobody I know has caught it. It’s like mass hysteria out there in the same vein as UFO abductions. Don’t know how he would catch it but I’m glad he isn’t ducking Carwin. Thanks for the info David.

what a bunch of slack jawed fags who cares who wins

  36. David

Banjo, what a pointless post. Why comment if you don’t like MMA? Insulting people for the sake of it just makes you look like an idiot with nothing clever to say so why bother?

  37. Ivan

Well, banjo, sometimes peple actually do care when they put some decent money down on the fights like I have in the past, and I’ve done pretty good handicapping the fights. The Carwin – Lesnar fight was going to be a huge moneymaker but it’s off the table now so that means less green in my pocket. If you would look at it that way then you would see why some people care about the outcome of fights, but I’m sure you have nothing better to do than post silly comments online and try to elicit some kind of ogrelike response from people you may imagine as being as dimwitted as you are,, and who pick their ass while popping down 6 packs off his BB gun and kicking yourself in the ass when you didn’t join the Corps cos you were too much of a fudgepacker to actually put your pathetic life on the line for something greater than yourself, and dare I say A LOT greater than yourself. Just another hater. Anyway, I heard Brock is all fucked up now. Don’t know what is going on now but MMA is fucked up right now. UFC 105 is next week and I’m really looking forward to Koscheck-Johnson, and then the lightweight title fight at UFC 107.

  38. Rich

I like Koscheck and think he can bang with Johnson for a little bit but he needs to take this fight to the ground for a chance to win. This should be a very exciting fight.

  39. David

Brock has caught mono, disastrous news and apparently he collapsed in Canada this week. I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s finished as a fighter. Carwin has just had knee surgery and Big Nog got another staph infection so the HW division is messed up, the only healthy contenders left are Cain and Mir.

UFC 106 should be decent as Tito-Forrest 2 will be a good fight albeit not main event worthy while Kos-Rumble will be sick, if Josh fights smart and uses his wrestling he’ll win but if he looks for the KO then he’ll get smashed himself. I’m not a Rumble fan, as he has failed to make weight twice (I don’t think he even tried for the Yoshida fight as his vlog showed him doing very little to cut the weight in training e.g. walking slowly on a treadmill Gabe Reudiger style) and was arrested for domestic abuse, so I’m hoping that Kos can beat the cocky Johnson.

  40. I was curious if anyone knew anything about these professional sports ? I am thinking about signing up for this sports handicapping service. It looks pretty promising and its supported by a clickback guarantee which means your going to get your money back if you don’t like the system or it simply doesn’t work. Has anyone tried anything like this?

  41. For me lesnar is the best heavyweight in UFC. There’s no way that anyone can dethrone him because he is in the primary shape of his life right now…
