WWE Trying For Tamer TV Rating

Written by sideshowraheem on July 24th, 2008 in Uncategorized.

With there move to MyNetworkTv the WWE will taming down the product on all three of there weekly shows in order to drop there American TV V-Chip rating from TV-14 to TV-PG.

As part of World Wrestling Entertainment’s moves to become more family friendly, company plans to produce its three weekly TV series in a way that lands them a PG rating.

Currently, “Monday Night Raw” on USA Network and Sci Fi’s “ECW” are rated TV-14, while the CW’s “Friday Night Smackdown” already is TV-PG.

“Smackdown” moves to MyNetworkTV in October.

WWE stressed that its shows wouldn’t become tamer, as a result of the change. They’d just focus more on its over-the-top characters and storylines, rather than attention-grabbing stunts that may have been considered too outrageous in the past.

Move is the latest step for the company to appeal to younger auds and families.

WWE recently launched a kids mag and website targeting the same demo with original content. Its film division, WWE Studios, also will steer away from R-rated content.

“It’s the continuing evolution of the company to create content for our growing audience of younger viewers,” a rep said.(Source)

What does this mean? Well it means that the WWE will be making even more of an effort to produce shows for the 14-year-old and younger crowd. Feel free to log your complaints in the comments.

I am so not happy about this. Pro wrestling really got good around the “attitude era”. That is when it drifted away from the younger crowd and the Hogan is a superhero era. Making a edgy show is what keeps me watching. Does this mean they cut down on the big boobed beauties, the car crashes into people(would be ok.. a little far fetched), the bloody mess that was Ric Flair’s hair and everything else I watch for. Please dont make Pro wrestling a kiddie show. You’ll lose more than you’ll gain in my opinion.

Meh. It may turn out to be garbage but the way I see it, with the last 3 years of Cena and DX it’s already a PG show. Now their just making it official. Hopefully at the very least this will stop us from seeing Vince McMahon die again at next year’s draft show.

  3. jmart Says:

that is true but i bet you next yr we will see him get hurt again in some way shape or form its vince lol but this pg thing has been going for awhile i mean what kinda shocking thing have we seen edge has tone down to the rated pg superstar hunter doesnt go on rampages where he blodies people cena is hogan and writes poopy on limos lol so its really not gonna change ne thing oh yeah and we havent seen blood on tv in forever

  4. jsnwwf Says:

i heard about this a while ago

    Ashame

CENA ownt die and no “fresh/naughty” storylines

No more pillow fights = good tho

    less blood = meh

    “poopi” = bad!

    semi- cursing gone = bad

  5. jsnwwf Says:

how is he edge/vicki stuff PG?

  6. Jade Says:

How is this different from the current product?

  7. jmart Says:

come on dude its pg there hasnt been ne cursing just kissing and nothing really bad if it was 2005 they would have edge in a video banging the wedding planner like with val venis back in the day with mr yamacugci son haha back in 1998

  8. jmart Says:

    sorry for my shitty spelling

  9. Rob Dib Says:

I’m not saying today’s show is edgy like it should be. I’m just worried that whatever they do might make it even worse. I would like to see the craziest crap you could imagine.

Does anyone know if they have ever actually hired fans as writers?? That might be a smart move. Maybe they just watch blogs for comments that seem interesting.. not me though I’m boring. I have seen some ideas on here that I really wish I could see on tv. Peace.

I am going to draw some heat but I kind of like the idea. When I first got into wrestling I was like 7 and knew what a hoe is. I currently have three nephews at the ages of 6,4, and 1. I don’t want them seeing some of the stuff I did. I want them to see a good product just not some of the stuff I did in the Attitude Era.

  11. DynamiteKid Says:

I don’t care what they do. Just get the belt off of HHH . Please, please please. HHH leaves RAW and suddenly that show is interesting again. He joins Smackdown and immediately buries Edge. Now he will be working a program vs Khali. So Smackdown is going to suck until this egomaniac hurts himself again.
Let’s hope that’s sooner rather than later.

  12. Rob Dib Says:

Ohh.. I hardly ever see HHH heat. Yet you make a valid point. He is a big baby in my opinion. I still believe he is entertaining sometimes although. No one is gonna be entertaining against Khali though.

  13. Pole Foam Says:

Exactly HHH is not that good, but for some stupid reason the booking team keep pushing him.

His title reigns are also a joke as he was once given the Gold Belt and last year he won the WWE belt for about an hour. Then he has the nerve to boast he is 12 time champion.

  14. jmart Says:

lol wasnt kevin nash champion for an hour

  15. jmart Says:

i feel you Dynamite i wanted to give hunter a chance but he really has done nothing

  16. jsnwwf Says:

Dynamite kid, I will rape you if you put 1 FUCKING MORE SPOILER UP!

    SERIOUSLY!!!!!!!

anyway, HHH hasnt buried Edge, he just beat him in a match

There was no squash and Edge lost over a clustered finish

  17. Pole Foam Says:

    jmart,

Kevin Nash is an entertaining side mid carder but not world title material.

  18. Pole Foam Says:

jsnwwf, you do realise its illegal to rape someone?

  19. jmart Says:

lol pole foam i was asking if he was champion for an hour back in wcw im not sure if it was for an hour or day lol i don’t remember

  20. Jeyrod Says:

Pf- not if they enjoy it. Good to see you back

  21. scotlandsmvp Says:

WWE is less appealing to me anyway. The only thing I am watching from the WWE is a Evan Bourne match now. I will watch it when Orton comes back and maybe for Smackdwn leading up to Summerslam.

BTW, big match made tonight. *Rubs hands with glee*

  22. Pole Foam Says:

jmart lol I cannot remember either, but I know he had the belt many times.

Jeyrod, yeah there are many freaks in this world and thanks its good to discuss wrestling again.

  23. Sam Says:

How is a more family friendly rating a bad thing?

TV-PG = Less compalints from nay-sayers, less of a likleyhood of people pointing the finger of “evil” wrestling whenever anyone remotely associated with the business gets in trouble, and my 3 year old nephew can watch it without learning curses (at least from a WWE show).

Lighten up, people. The old Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles toon would prbably get a TV-PG today, and I would still watch it.
