Damn, I forgot Justin Credible had been temporarily brought back to be ECWWE’s local jobber. And to think he used to be ECW’s Wolrd Champion and biggest heel at the time smh…

the thing is the ballroom is a smark heavy, roh/ecw vocal fan sort of venue, it made sense to debut punk there, made him look good with alot of signs and crowd support,

they should make ecw like wcw’s saturday night show, every episode at the same venue

That was a fantastic decision to debut Punk at the Hammerstein Ballroom. He was completely over with the crowd, gave him a great debut match.

This is during the time when I was getting back into watching it full time. It helped that they debuted Punk @ Hammerstein, because after I saw that show, I instantly looked him up on Wikipedia to see how this new guy got so much acclaim from fans. Subsequently, I found out about his ROH career, how he had “great matches” with Samoa Joe. Then clicked on Samoa Joe’s name, to see all the hype. He had received a “5 Star Match Rating from Dave Meltzer” for his Joe v. Kobashi match. Then found out about TNA (which Joe was involved in), and the “X Division.”, where Joe was the champion at the time.

I could go on for hours on end, and paragraphs, but yea, this is the synopsis of how CM Punk got me back into wrestling.

Foreal? I had no idea WCW Saturday Night was at the same venue. I thought they did different arenas just not the one big arena Nitro did shows at.

it was on TBS i think

    WCW Saturday Night

As previously mentioned, World Championship Wrestling would be renamed WCW Saturday Night on April 4, 1992. This reflected an overhauled look and a new home studio-arena at the CNN Center. The show featured a hi-tech, futuristic design with a unique entry way of slide-open doors and billowing smoke as the performers made their way to the ring.

When the show originally premiered, it was hosted by Jim Ross[3] and Jesse Ventura[4]. In later years, Tony Schiavone[5], Bobby Heenan[6], Larry Zbyszko, Dusty Rhodes (who affectionately referred to Saturday Night as “The Mothership”), Gene Okerlund, Scott Hudson, Mike Tenay, and Lee Marshall handled the show’s announcing duties and backstage interviews.

In the summer of 1996, WCW Saturday Night was taped at WCW Pro’s Disney-MGM Studios set in Orlando, Florida due to all of Turner’s mobile production units being used by other broadcasters for the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta.

The nWo (New World Order) did their own version of WCW Saturday Night in late 1996 called nWo Saturday Night.

I actually never seen that match. I’m not much of a CM Punk fan but he’s growing on me like mold. I definitely like the finisher from that match. I don’t think he still uses that these days.. anyone know?
