EliteXC Takes Cues From Pro-Wrestling

There was a crazy rumor early last week saying Dana White and a group of inverters that included Vince McMahon were plaining to purchase the UFC. Of course the rumors where intimidatingly shot down by Dana White but if Vine and Dana were to ever get together on a MMA promotion I have a feeling it would look a little something like this.
Allow me to set the table this contains spoilers from last nights EliteXC: Return of the King event so if you haven’t watched and were plaining to I would stop reading now. After current EliteXC Light Weight Champion KJ Noons finished destroying number one contender Yves Edwards in less then a minute he was being interviewed by EliteXC commentator Goldberg when fellow light heavyweight Nick Diaz(who had just scored a victory earlier that night over Muhsin Corbbrey) made his way into the octagon. The result was something you would expect to see on Monday Night Raw only more entertaining.

Huh….well imagine that. Whats next? UFC fighters having their own entrance themes and some get pyro based off their popularity and starts shows off with coming out to the ring rambling why they aren’t the champion and blah blah blah….

interesting, i mean i guess it could be non-scripted but goldberg was way too calm for it to seem real, thats pretty dumb, im pretty sure dana white knows what hes doing and would never let ufc get to this point ever. people can see right through this, i used to think “Roller Jam” was real back in the day but after awhile they used storylines and thats when that sport/show whatever went down the drain

Oh hell yeah. That shit was extra lame! Remember they even brought in a title belt?
Or even how could we forget Thunderbox?

oh i know! it seemed to legit when it first came out, then they did all that, that navada hot dice and whatever the LA team was were like the 2 huge rivals, they even began playing up the individuals on the teams hardcore, the last episode i remember them having, a guy from the hot dice stole the belt from the LA team while their main guy was trapped in the cage and his team was getting beat down and he stole the belt and took off on an ATV with it, and that was like the end of RollerJam

This did seem pretty staged. EliteXC’s promoter Gary Shaw seems pretty slimy to me, so I wouldn’t put it past him setting this up. That said it has created a lot of hype for a Diaz/Noons rematch that they will probably put on CBS.
Personally I hate fucking Nick Diaz. They guy is burnt out stoner asshole. He had a fight earlier on this show where he came in 9 pounds overweight. For those of you who don’t know MMA, 9 pounds is a fucking lot to miss weight by. What makes that even worse is the lightweight limit in EliteXC is 160 pounds, which is 5 pounds more then the UFC, and he still missed that by 9 pounds. Basically the guy should really be a welterweight.
Noons really isn’t that good, but I hope he fucking knocks Nick Diaz’s head off in the rematch.

I don’t care if it was rigged or not, if things like this happened in MMA more I might enjoy it. I think this may be over the top or a little to rigged looking, but Wrestling fans love storylines, and MMA fans just pretend they don’t. That’s why they have The Ultimate Fighter coaches fight on a PPV after the season ends, that’s why the show with the Pro Wrestler coming to UFC did double the buys. If you ever point something like that out to a die-hard, wrestling hating MMA fan they’ll deny it to the death, but it’s true.

First off, KJ will destroy Nick Diaz. Noons is super explosive, and Diaz looked SLOW last night…he won, but he had a huge size advantage. The Diaz brothers are punks.
Because this is EliteXC, I’m assuming that it was probably set up. Just look at the press conference after the CBS show where Kimbo got called out by Brett Rogers…there’s a pattern here.
Another I’ve noticed with EliteXC is the way they make the matches…most matches don’t get out of the first round and usually end in a knockout. Their matchmakers seem to be pretty good at putting together fights that will end in knockout.

I think Nick Diaz is a prick but he does deserve a rematch the first fight they had ended really early in the first round do to a cut over his eye.
As for this it seemed pretty staged epeshally since EliteXC officials had to let Diaz into the ring but I guess there doing what they can to compete with the UFC.

As much as I dislike Diaz they guy has some serious skills. He is one of the best BJJ guys in MMA. He beat Takanori Gomi (even thought it was later changed to a no contest due to Diaz testing positive for Marijuana) who is considered by most to be the #1 ranked lightweight in the world. So if Diaz comes ready, which he didn’t really look like he did for this last fight, he should destroy Noons. Noons is a good boxer and always has that punchers chance, but if the fight hits the mat Diaz will work him over.
