Countdown To Wrestlemania 24: Wrestlemania X-Seven
Written by sideshowraheem on March 22nd, 2008 in Uncategorized.
Wrestlemania X-Seven a.k.a. Wrestlemania XVII was the first Wrestlemania held in the state of Texas at the Astrodome on April 1, 2001. That night the WWE established a new all-time record for the facility at 67,925 fans. or the second Wrestlemania in a row, Edge & Christian captured the World Tag Team Championship in a match that also included the Dudleys and the Hardy Boyz. Like Wrestlemania 2000’s version, it was a Ladder Match, but this time it also included tables and chairs, officially making it the first TLC Match in Wrestlemania history. Wrestlemania X-Seven marked the Wrestlemania in-ring debut of the man who conceptualized the event, Vince McMahon, when he took on his son Shane. Also that night Chyna made her Wrestlemania in ring debut and defeated Ivory to win the WWF Womans Championship.
At Wrestlemania X-Seven for the second time “Stone Cold” Steve Austin would square off against The Rock in a Wrestlemania main event. Stone Cold won their previous main event at Wrestlemania XV, and the partisan Texas crowd was clearly on the Rattlesnake’s side for this rematch. The intrigue in the classic bout grew as Vince McMahon made his way to ringside. Vince soon revealed his reason for being there siding with the Texas Rattlesnake and helping his once bitter rival Stone Cold regain the WWF Championship. With this victory over The Rock Stone Cold’s Wrestlemania record moved to 3-0 while The Rock’s dropped to 0-3.

I remember the next day in the playground how shocked we all were that austin had sold his soul to the devil.
it was devestating. a few days later was the first time id ever been on a wrestling site online and i read a smackdown spoiler, and then it all began……………..

This was arguebaly the best wrestlemania. I personally feel this was the best one. I remember in JHS how we were all talking about Austin turn bad and etc.
Just an absolute fantastic WM. Sensational.

Not one bad match on the card.
Austin v. Rock IMO overtakes any other WM match.
I said it. I was10 when it happened, and I remember hating SCSA until of course the Alliance thing started, and…
I’ll stop now before nostalgia carries me into a 4 page post.

Also, the pop that SCSA got - HUGE! I have the orig. VHS and a bootleg DVD of the coliseum copies. Watch that pop - I have yet to see Hogan or any other shmcuk get a big a pop as that.

Its amazing watchng those clips, brings back so many memories.
wrestlemania x-8 next, which was around the time i started becoming critical of the product, in fact a month after i stopped watching (the cable company i had went bust, and i moved away then anyway) ironically the draft was the last raw episode i watched untill the homecoming raw (then after that i diddnt watch for a while again due to me not having internet or any way to watch the show)
March 22nd, 2008 at 3:35 pm
I started to critique the product (stopped being a mark-ish kid) after Surv. Series 01. The product was so stale after the invasion angle, no?

Shaman–
I have the original VHS, too, and you’re right — Austin’s pop is INSANE. Of course, it was 60,000 people in Texas, so that’s why, lol.

Match of the night: Austin Rock

SIDESHOW, how is it that vince is punishing London for doing a 450, but not Jillian? Jillian has done it on RAW, on more than 1 occasion.
March 23rd, 2008 at 2:20 am
not only that JSN but she has botched them both, she does finish with her legs out and if not careful could break her legs.
March 23rd, 2008 at 7:59 am
I just reread the article I got that info from and I miss spoke it wasn’t a 450 splash it was a shooting star that Paul London did to the outside of the ring and he had been previously told to not use that move again. That would explain Vince’s threat to fire him but I do remember reading somewhere that the 450 splash is also band so I don’t know why Julian gets special treatment.
March 23rd, 2008 at 8:50 pm
I have heard that too.
