Countdown To Wrestlemania 24: Wrestlemania XV

Written by sideshowraheem on March 20th, 2008 in Uncategorized.

The First Union Center in Philadelphia, PA hosted Wrestlemania XV. The first Hardcore Championship Match in Wrestlemania history, featuring Al Snow, Billy Gunn and Hardcore Holly, occurred at Wrestlemania XV. Also that night the first and only Hell In A Cell match in Wrestlemania history took place between The Undertaker and Big Boss Man. One of the more unique contests at Wrestlemania XV was the “Brawl for All” match, pitting pro boxer Butterbean against Bart Gunn in a shoot boxing match. Just 34 seconds into the first round of action, Butterbean KO’d Bart and scored the win. Although the loss was effectively the end of Bart Gunn’s WWE carrier because he KO’d the well respected “Doctor Death” Steve Williams in the second round of the “Brawl for All” tournament he was able to continue his wrestling carrier in the independent circuit and in Japan under the name Mike Barton. Owen Hart and Jeff Jarrett defended the World Tag Team Championship at WrestleMania XV making Jarrett the third different championship partner that Owen had a Wrestlemania event. At Wrestlemania XI, Owen and Yokozuna won the World Tag Team Championship, and at Wrestlemania 13, Owen and the British Bulldog held the titles.

The legendary rivalry between WWE Chairman Mr. McMahon and Stone Cold had spanned more than a year when Wrestlemania XV rolled around. McMahon had chosen The Rock to be his champion, and it was he and Stone Cold who would battle it out at Wrestlemania XV. At first Mr. McMahon appointed himself special referee for the main event, but Commissioner Shawn Michaels overruled McMahon, saying a traditional WWE official would do the job. It was later ruled that the winner of the Mankind/Big Show match on the under card would get to be the special guest referee in the main event. The winner of that match Mick Foley counted the pinfall in the final match of WrestleMania XV, when Stone Cold defeated The Rock to become the WWE Champion making Stone Cold the first man ever to win the WWE Championship at consecutive Wrestlemania events.

The hanging of Bossman was fucking GREAT!

  2. ARICE Says:

The Undertaker was so weird that year ! If Undertaker is World Champ by the time next years Wrestle Mania HBK should win the Rumble and go after The undertaker !

  3. Afton Says:

My god Butterbean almost took Bart Gunn’s head off.

The Brawl 4 All was great but perhaps a bit head of it’s time. The WWE had a difficult time explaining that those matches were shoot and it caused a few injures so the WWE will never do it again but it sure was fun to watch.
