Countdown To Wrestlemania 24: Wrestlemania XIV

Written by sideshowraheem on March 19th, 2008 in Uncategorized.

The Fleetcenter in Boston, MA played host to Wrestlemania XIV and there were tons of firsts. Wrestlemania XIV marked the first time the European Championship was defended at a Wrestlemania and it was also the first and only time that the Light Heavyweight Championship was defended at a Wrestlemania event. For the first time WWE Hall of Famer announcing duo Jerry Lawler and Jim Ross called the event without Vince McMahon. Pete Rose made his first of several Wrestlemania appearances when he was attacked by Kane, Rose’s continued Wrestlemania appearances earned him a spot in the celebrity wing of the WWE Hall of Fame. That night in an interview with Gennifer Flowers The Rock used the term “if you smell what The Rock is cooking” for the first time. In yet another first The Undertaker faced off with his kayfabe brother Kane for the very first time.

The main event for Wrestlemania XIV was “Stone Cold” Steve Austin vs Shawn Michaels(c) for the WWF Championship. Because of his severe injury back injury many thought this would be Shawn Michaels last match ever but of course HBK eventually returned to the ring four years later. To maintain safety in the WWF Championship match Mr. McMahon hired a special enforcer “Iron” Mike Tyson, the self-proclaimed baddest man on the planet. Despite the fact that it appeared as though Tyson had joined Michaels, Triple H and Chyna in D-Generation X in the weeks prior to event, Iron Mike was still allowed to play his part in the match. In the end, Tyson proved to be completely impartial. In fact, when the appointed official was unable to continue due to injury, Mike even counted the three count, ending the match and giving Stone Cold his first WWE Championship. That moment is considered the beginning of the WWE’s “Attitude Era”.

HBK is the Best there is, the Best there was, and the Best there ever will be ! Hands down , every one was sucking Stone Cold’s dick whEn actually he coulden’t lace Shawn Michaels boots. I was about 9 when this match took place and i was so upset when Shawn lost the Title………..This brings back bad memories I thought HBK would be gone forever.

HBK = greatest comedy heel of alltime.

He would make you laugh, love em, hate em(not me though), and respect him at the same time.

NOT TO MENTION HE WAS THE BEST IN THE RING!

Are you suggesting Stone Cold wasn’t a good wrestler? Granted, HBK is more talented in the ring, but Stone Cold had an amazing grasp of ring psychology.
